Jessie Mabrey, one of our inspiring Champions of Change at ViaPath Technologies, is dedicated to supporting women and children through trauma. With over 15 years of experience advocating for justice-impacted women, Jessie’s passion to uplift others was born from her own journey of resilience. After serving 27 years of incarceration, Jessie emerged determined to rewrite her story — and to help others do the same. Throughout her sentence, she remained connected to her daughter using GTL phone systems, a lifeline that helped preserve their bond and strengthened her resolve to build a better future. Most recently, Jessie attended the 5th Annual National Returning Citizens Conference—an event focused on criminal justice professionals, teachers, and social workers, while also recognizing justice-impacted individuals who have successfully transitioned back into society. During the conference Jessie was the presenter of a 90-minute workshop for children of incarcerated parents. Jessie lives by the motto: “Where you’ve been is not who you are.” And every day, she proves just that.

In honor of Second Chance month, we'll be sharing the stories of our Champions of Change — people who are redefining what second chances really look like through advocacy, leadership, and lived experience. But before we do… we want to hear from you: What does a second chance mean to you? Drop your thoughts in the comments and join the conversation. #SecondChanceMonth #Redemption #Resilience

Our Champions of Change recently traveled to Texas to give back in a meaningful way—working alongside our 2024 grantee, Comfort Cases, Inc. to pack bags filled with essentials for those entering the foster care system. This work reflects more than volunteerism. It’s a reflection of our mission at ViaPath Technologies: to support second chances and lead with compassion, dignity, and purpose. When we show up for the most vulnerable, we live out our values, and strengthen the communities we serve. This is what giving back looks like at ViaPath. And we’re just getting started. #SecondChanceMonth #SecondChance #ChampionsOfChange #ViaPathCares #MissionInMotion

According to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), approximately 25,000 youths are held in residential placement facilities. Our rehabilitation and reintegration solutions are built to help incarcerated individuals every step of the way and increase their chances of staying out. We provide support, tools, and resources to help them set and achieve their goals from the first day. We also believe access to education shouldn’t end once an individual is released from a ViaPath serviced facility. Which is why our learners continue to have access to the same trainings for up to one year post incarceration. According to the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services (HHS), more than 650,000 individuals across the U.S. are released from state and federal prisons each year. The agency also reports that more than two-thirds of those released are likely to be re-arrested within three years due to a lack of training, reintegration skills, and employment opportunities. With ViaPath Technologies Inspire tablets in correctional facilities across the U.S., incarcerated individuals can access the necessary training and other curricula needed in preparation for reintegration and in finding and maintaining employment. On average, incarcerated individuals who participated in education programs while incarcerated were 43% less likely to recidivate than those who did not. They also had a 13% higher chance of obtaining employment post-release than those who did not. Completing online workforce training programs on ViaPath tablets prepare incarcerated learners for hands-on training and certification when released. Learn more here: https://hubs.la/Q03bN6H30
