About us

The mission of the USTA Foundation is to change lives through the powerful combination of tennis and education. Using this powerful combination, we help serve up dreams for under-resourced youth. The USTA Foundation is a 501 c(3) charitable organization incorporated in 1994 as the philanthropic entity of the United States Tennis Association (USTA). USTA Foundation uses the sport of tennis as a vehicle to help under-resourced youth become more engaged in school and learning with the goal of succeeding in tennis and in life. To that end, we support programs nationwide that leverage tennis and education to help those in need, primarily through the National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) network. The NJTL network features more than 270 chapters that reach over 130,000 youth on an annual basis, providing free or low-cost tennis and education programming to the 50 largest markets in the U.S. - nurturing future leaders and enabling kids in need to succeed on the court, in the classroom and in life. We raise money to support these life-changing programs through donations and special fundraisers held throughout the year, including the US Open Opening Night Gala, Pro-Am Events, Fantasy Tennis Camp and by connecting with other philanthropic and strategic partners. Our efforts are making a difference. To date, we have awarded more than $64 million in program services, grants and scholarships to hundreds of programs, benefitting thousands of children and adults through tennis, education and health curricula. It’s the kind of difference that translates into more fulfilled and happier individuals and better, more vital communities. Your generous donations allow us to continue to assist in this great work. And with your continued support, we can continue to serve up dreams – helping so many make theirs come true.

  • “What Frances is doing is showing up so people can see what is possible through his example.” — Ginny Ehrlich, USTA Foundation CEO Earlier this week, youth from the Houston Tennis Association (HTA) had the chance to hit the court with Frances Tiafoe—and it was more than just a clinic. It was a moment of inspiration, fun, and visibility. Frances spent the afternoon helping players with their game and connecting with youth. He showed them what’s possible when you work hard and chase your dreams. We were also honored to be joined by Houston tennis legend Zina Garrison, who continues to be a guiding light for the tennis community—especially in her hometown. At the USTA Foundation, we believe access to mentorship and meaningful experiences like this can be life-changing. Thank you, Frances and Zina, for helping us bring that vision to life. 🌟 #ustafoundation

  • We’re proud to honor two incredible NJTL chapters for their lasting impact on youth through tennis and education. 🏆 NJTL of the Year: MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation! For more than 25 years, MWYF has transformed lives in Jacksonville, FL, through a holistic approach that combines tennis, academic assistance, leadership development, mental health support, and more.  🏆 NJTL Founders’ Award: Richard & Eleanor Brenner, First Serve New Mexico! With a deep belief in the lifelong value of tennis and education, the Brenners created a program that continues to inspire confidence, community, and academic excellence in Santa Fe youth. The award was accepted by Program Director Chris Slakey, who has served the chapter for over two decades. We’re grateful for these leaders and their dedication to helping young people thrive—on the court and in life! #USTAFoundation #NJTL

  • As we share our final Women’s History Month spotlight, we’re reminded that the power of sport goes far beyond the court. Amy Cowan, a member of our USTA Foundation Young Professional Initiative, reflects on the lasting impact of women tennis players who have inspired generations through their resilience and achievements. Their example reminds us to keep pushing for inclusivity, opportunity, and progress—not just in tennis, but in every space we show up. Thank you, Amy, for your passion and perspective. 🌟 #ustafoundation #womenshistorymonth

As a member of our Young Professional Initiative, Kat shared how meaningful it’s been to be surrounded by inspiring women—both in leadership and among her peers—and to witness the impact of our mission firsthand. From visiting NJTL chapters across New York to seeing young people thrive through the sport, Kat’s experience is a reminder of how representation and opportunity go hand in hand. • We’re inspired by ESPN’s new campaign, Take Back Sports—a year-long initiative to make youth sports more accessible, inclusive, and fun. As Kevin Martinez, USTA Foundation Board Member and ESPN’s Vice President of Corporate Citizenship, powerfully said: “It’s time to take back youth sports from a system that has prioritized profit over well-being... We need to shift the focus back to what matters — making sports accessible, enjoyable and rewarding for all kids.” At the USTA Foundation, our mission has always been rooted in that same belief: that every young person deserves the opportunity to play, grow, and thrive through sport. Thank you, Kevin, for your leadership in helping to reimagine youth sports for the next generation. 👏 Read more about the campaign here: https://bit.ly/4iNdviU

  • Before stepping onto the court at the Miami Open and Hard Rock Stadium, Frances Tiafoe took time to give back to the next generation of leaders on and off the court. 👏 In Delray Beach, he surprised youth from the DELRAY BEACH YOUTH TENNIS FOUNDATION, a NJTL chapter, helping them hone their on-court skills through a clinic powered by the USTA Foundation’s Frances Tiafoe Fund. The next day, he hosted the very first "Tiafoe Talk" with students from FIRST SERVE MIAMI INC—an inspiring session focused on “Big Foe’s Big Four,” lessons he’s learned through tennis and life. As Frances said, “The more people we can get introduced to the game that usually wouldn’t play is a win for the sport.” That’s why he continues to show up and we are proud to have him standing with us in our mission. We’re incredibly grateful for Frances’ commitment to the next generation of leaders—on and off the court. #ustafoundation #francestiafoefund #njtl
