We often talk about the ITF player pathway – the structured route for aspiring tennis players to go from junior tennis to our sport’s elite level. Sometimes that pathway begins well before junior tennis. The ITF often provides the opportunity for a child to pick up a racket for the first time and enjoy the game through one of its development programmes. Flicking through our photo archive always brings back memories of some of today’s top players competing in ITF competition when they were starting out. The biennial conference regularly attracts more than 600 coaches from over 100 nations and serves as a premier opportunity for coach education, knowledge-sharing and networking with leading international experts in player performance and sport science. India has a rich tennis tradition, and a new wave of talent is not only creating excitement but fuelling hope that the nation can have multiple players starring on the ATP and WTA Tours simultaneously. Among a number of aspiring players, Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi and Manas Dhamne, who are aged 15 and 17 respectively, are the leading lights and have started to make their mark👉 https://lnkd.in/eW9WFxja Rajeshwaran Revathi, who features in the video below, reached the semi-finals of the WTA’s Mumbai Open in February. Dhamne, meanwhile, clinched the first pro title of his career at M15 Monastir on the ITF World Tennis Tour during the same month. Four-time Davis Cup champion Feliciano Lopez will return as Tournament Director for the next three editions of the Davis Cup Final 8.    Having overseen successful Final 8 events in Malaga in 2023 and 2024, the Spaniard has been appointed by the ITF to lead the event in 2025-2027 while it is held in Italy.    Lopez earned praise from players, captains and staff for his contribution during the last two Final 8 events which drew record attendances and produced countless memorable moments in Andalucia.    The 2025 Davis Cup Final 8 will take place on 18-23 November 2025 at SuperTennis Arena by Bologna Fiere, home of the city’s Euroleague basketball team, Virtus Bologna. Another wonderful player pathway story emerged from the Miami Open as Czech teenager Jakub Mensik claimed the men's title, denying Novak Djokovic his 100th ATP singles crown in the process. By sealing his first ATP Tour title – he is the ninth youngest to become a Masters 1000 champion – the 19-year-old surges to a career-best No. 24 in the ATP Rankings 👉 https://lnkd.in/eqw-9wrv There is little doubt that Mensik is a rising star of the game, but it only seems five minutes since he was helping his nation finish third at the ITF World Junior Tennis Finals – the international team event for players aged 14 and under. Mensik, a former junior world No. 2, also represented his nation at the 2021 Davis Cup Juniors Finals before making his senior Davis Cup debut in 2023 and his Olympic bow the following year. He has five ITF World Tennis Tour titles to his name. A major milestone for the ITF's World Tennis Number! The rating will become one of the acceptance criteria for singles events on the ITF World Tennis Tour from next month. The World Tennis Number will become the third measure of acceptance into tournaments, used after all players with a WTA/ATP singles ranking and an ITF ranking have been accepted. The first tournaments implementing the updated criteria will take place w/c 21 April 2025. This change will therefore apply to any entry deadline on or after 3 April. Alexandra Eala’s fairytale run at the Miami Open continues after the teenager defeated five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek to reach the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 event. It has been an amazing tournament for the 19-year-old who has made tennis history for the Philippines, while she will surge into the world’s Top 100 when the WTA Rankings are updated next week. It was a privilege to spend a day with Alex, her father Mike and coach Dani while filming a Day in the Life: Alexandra Eala back in October 2023. We really got to know the person behind the player – something we always try to do. Maybe there will be a new addition to that shelf in the coming days?!
