We’re used to seeing labels on food, medicine, or clothing—but rarely on bespoke products like sculptures. An ingredient list offers transparency: it reveals a work’s origins, materials, carbon footprint, and how to handle it at end-of-life—whether through repair, reuse, recycling, or return. In collaboration with Griffith University, Future Normal, and Carbon Footprint Ltd, we developed the Artwork Ingredient List (AIL). This initiative brings transparency to public art by tracking materials, labour, energy use, and emissions. Like a nutrition label, it helps artists and clients make more informed, sustainable decisions. AIL was central to A Feral Commons, a global co-commission initiative by Alserkal Advisory, in collaboration with Global Cultural Districts Network (GCDN), curated by Tairone Bastien and presented in Kingston, Jamaica, Johannesburg, South Africa, and Dubai in the UAE. In Kingston, Camille Chedda’s Chain of Love revived a forgotten space with community stories and the resilient rice and peas bush. In Johannesburg, Ophidian’s Promise became the city’s first eco-duct, offering safe passage for wildlife across a river. And in Dubai, Muhannad Shono’s A Forgotten Place turned AC runoff water drops into a lifeline for feral plants thriving in the city’s margins. With the help of the creative districts, Kingston Creative, Victoria Yards and Alserkal Avenue, AIL will be shaped not only by local ecologies but by a more profound commitment to sustainability in both concept and production. #ArtworkIngredientList #AFeralCommons #Dubai #Kingston #Johannesburg #UAP #UrbanArtProjects #MuhannadShono #CamilleChedda #IoMakandal #KingstonCreative #VictoriaYards #AlserkalAvenue

Memphis’s Medical District Park has a new monument honouring the unseen labour of caregiving. “Monuments to Motherhood” is a trio of bronze sculptures by Molly Gochman designed to create moments of connection. The sculptures' open, looping forms invite rest, play, and reflection. Over time, the bronze surfaces will evolve, touched by weather and by those who engage with them—a living record of human connection. Bringing these sculptures to life was a process as intricate as the labour they honour. Molly's maquettes were transformed into full-scale bronze forms in our New York workshop, refined through digital modelling, casting, welding, and patination. A protector, a companion, a vibrant symbol—Guardian Lion now watches over Melbourne Square, bridging myth, nature, and urban life in a dazzling display of colour and light. Inspired by the legend of the 'Grampian's big cat' and the global tradition of guardian lions, Troy Emery's monumental sculpture transforms the cityscape, offering both protection and playfulness. By day, its bold form captures attention; by night, its radiant glow reshapes the space around it. More than just an artwork, Guardian Lion is a landmark—a meeting place, a source of wonder, and a beacon of connection. For decades, the Penn Station Eagles, originally sculpted by Adolph Alexander Weinman in the early 20th century, stood as symbols of resilience. When the station was demolished in the 1960s, these guardians were scattered across the country. Now, one has found its way home. To restore history above PENN 2, a lost wax mould was taken from an original 7,500lb stone eagle, allowing us to cast a 500lb aluminium replica that preserves every sculpted detail. The result? A breathtaking tribute to NYC’s past, soaring once more above the city. “I want people to see themselves in the sculpture and be able to reflect on their day to day lives coming into the building.” -Nabila Nordin The artwork focuses on the magic of a prop department's production space. It illustrates how the behind-the-scenes space animates and comes to life when humans aren't present. By combining found objects like door handles and old furniture, Nordin creates an abstract and loosely figurative caricature that depicts the experience of getting ready and going to work. ‘The Tie and the Undercoat’ is showing at The Australian Embassy in Washington DC for the next year. This project has been supported by Art Makers, Agency Projects, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Australia in the US 🇦🇺🇺🇸.
