About us

United Way of Greater Houston creates opportunities for every person in our community to thrive. At the heart of our work is ensuring the safety net by providing life-saving services to meet our neighbors’ most basic needs, like food and shelter. We are here to support families and individuals when they are going through crises, like job loss, domestic violence and natural disasters. And, we create a pathway to self-sufficiency and success for our neighbors and our community. We provide the tools, resources and education for families to achieve financial stability and independence, for children to succeed in school and in life and for veterans to rebuild their lives after returning from service. Every day of the year, 24-hours a day, we are the voice of help and hope for those who call our 2-1-1 Texas/United Way HELPLINE. And, we bring stakeholders and our community together to address the most pressing needs in our area, improving the quality of life for everyone in our region. We do it all strategically, transparently and with a focus on results. Join us. www.unitedwayhouston.org

  • A big thank you to all who rolled up their sleeves to help local students at our Young Leaders and LINC Pitch In & Peel event! Together, we built 21 desks, connected over crawfish, and made a difference for children in our community. We appreciate all that our donors and volunteers do to help our neighbors land on their feet, and stay there.

  • We’re proud to celebrate 10 years of United Way M.A.T.H., a partnership with ConocoPhillips aimed at increasing the number of Houston-area students who pass Algebra, setting them up for future success in high school and beyond. The letters M.A.T.H. stand for Mastering Algebra Together Houston, but the program stands for something even bigger—confidence. By making learning fun and helping students tap into their own potential, United Way M.A.T.H. inspires the confidence young people need to tackle any challenge that stands between them and their goals. Go beyond the numbers and see how United Way M.A.T.H. has made a meaningful impact in our community. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gMWPRJCt

  • Women’s Initiative and Young Leaders members recently gathered for an enlightening panel on financial empowerment. This discussion highlighted a critical reality: that women hold two-thirds of student loan debt in the United States. Expert panelists Ann Deaton, Cathy Nunnally, Chloe Wohlforth, CFP®, Rebecca Rush, and guest speaker, Beth Casteel shared actionable strategies for navigating financial challenges, such as student loan debt and building wealth from career launch to retirement. Special thanks to Kathryn Mikells, ExxonMobil Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, for sponsoring this impactful event, helping women in our community learn new financial strategies to create brighter futures for themselves and their families. • With over 35 years of combined experience leading disaster recovery efforts, Greater Houston Community Foundation and United Way of Greater Houston formed the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance in 2023 to ensure the region has the networks and systems in place to accelerate recovery effectively and equitably in times of disaster. Through an initial investment from Enbridge and Phillips 66, the Disaster Alliance catalyzes public and private partnerships and brings year-round focus to disaster preparedness and resiliency to reduce the harms caused by disaster on our most vulnerable residents.
