We’ve moved from the days of Statistical Machine Learning (📊), where models relied on structured data, to the Deep Learning era (🧠) that sparked breakthroughs in vision, language, and perception. Then came Generative AI (📝), unlocking cross-domain reasoning and content creation. Now, we’re entering the Agentic Phase (🤖), where AI systems won’t just suggest — they’ll execute.
5 Dimensions of Progress
• Intelligence — reasoning, coding 💡
• Multimodality — text, audio, video, actions 🎥
• Multilinguality — global collaboration 🌐
• Capability — human-level & beyond 🚦

While the pace of progress is accelerating, we’re not without bottlenecks. Jonathan pointed out that AI models still struggle with real-world complexity due to the lack of robust, practical benchmarks. Gaps in reasoning, tool use, and decision-making continue to slow down real autonomy — especially in environments outside lab conditions.
Looking ahead, he expects a shift toward models that validate their own outputs, engage in dynamic task decomposition, and operate seamlessly across modalities. The goal isn’t just smarter AI — it’s more agentic AI that can handle complexity, context, and nuance.
