Tomorrow is Tax Day, and whether you’re late to file, or worried about what is owed, the deadline can bring a lot of stress. According to recent Thriveworks research, financial anxiety impacts 54% of Americans. This past weekend, Dr. Denitrea Vaughan, PsyD, LPC-S with Thriveworks, joined WFAA Daybreak to highlight how financial stress can impact our overall well-being and practical ways to cope. We're excited to announce the launch of ThriveConnect! Streamlining the referral process, ThriveConnect enables healthcare providers to directly match and book their patients with mental health clinicians based on their specific needs and preferences. Thriveworks' Chief Growth Officer, Michael Midgette recently spoke with Anastassia Gliadkovskaya from Fierce Healthcare about the platform, noting that it "greatly improves the likelihood that somebody will successfully enter behavioral health treatment.” Read the article in full here: https://lnkd.in/g_-F4eVr If interested in getting started on the platform, contact partnerships@thriveworks.com

Every parent dreams of their child making and keeping friends with ease but sadly that isn’t reality for some kids. Xiomara Arrieta, LCSW with Thriveworks spoke with Washington Family to discuss how parents can help support their child if they’re struggling to make friends. Kids often model their behavior after their parents so Arrieta says that parents can work on social skills with their kids at home. She suggests putting down the screens and picking up a board game or going on a family walk. “Those kinds of things help the child to get a taste for socializing,” she adds. Being an introvert doesn’t look the same for everyone. There are four types–social, thinking, anxious and restrained– each with their own unique characteristics. Monica Cwynar, LCSW with Thriveworks chatted with HuffPost on how to embrace these different introverted personalities. If you’re an anxious introvert, Cwynar suggests slowly exposing yourself to more social situations. “Finding safe spaces or supportive individuals can empower them to engage socially at their own pace,” she adds. https://lnkd.in/gvH_fwzi

Words that come from those we trust can make or break us. As parents, it can be hard to know if something you said has a positive or negative impact on your child. Thriveworks psychologist, Dr. Crystal Saidi, offered her advice to Parade on phrases caregivers should be saying to their kids. According to Dr. Saidi, one of the most important phrases parents should say is “I love you no matter what.” "Children need to be reassured that they are loved and valued with no conditions," Dr. Saidi continued.“This phrase creates a safe emotional space where children can feel free to be their authentic selves, knowing that their parents' love is constant. It sends the message that they are valued and loved without having to be perfect." Check out more phrases parents should say here: https://lnkd.in/gdUAf7bS

Telling lies to others can be a recipe for disaster, but what about telling lies to ourselves? Dr. Brandy Smith, a Licensed Psychologist with Thriveworks shared her thoughts with Parade on what lies can be harmful and when it might be okay to tell ourselves a little white lie. One lie that might be harmful is “I didn’t mean it like that, so it’s okay” Dr. Smith notes. "Because we are privy to our internal thoughts and feelings, we often cut ourselves more slack than we cut others and see our own actions in a more positive light," she says. "This prevents us from accurately seeing ourselves and more fully seeing the multitude of layers of complexity of others, which can lead us to be less empathic to others and be closed off when someone shares their perspective of how we came across because what they say does not jive with how we view ourselves." TikTok has become a place for many to find community, for better or for worse. NarcTok or “Narcissism Tok” is a TikTok trend where people–in this case teen– are discussing their experience with what they believe is narcissism. Thriveworks therapist, Kyle Kunkel, LCPC, spoke with Parents about how these conversations can be harmful to these relationships. One danger of getting information like this from TikTok is the lack of accuracy. “Diagnosing a personality disorder is complicated, even within the field, with a license, and actively seeing clients,” Kunkel said. “All of us have personality traits and quirks. Personalities and communication styles are learned, and cycles are created. Descriptions of narcissist behaviors on NarcTok should be taken with a grain of salt as none of the above clinical requirements are typically discussed.” Read more about NarcTok: https://lnkd.in/g_RAm8TG
