The term “empath” has become widely used in the last few years and means someone who is keenly aware of others emotions, and can feel those emotions deeply. Thriveworks therapist, Hallie Kritsas, LMHC, shared her experience with HuffPost on what empaths bring up in therapy and how they can work through these challenges. Kritsas says empath clients she’s seen describe experiencing a feeling of heaviness because they constantly put themselves in other emotional shoes. When the heaviness gets to be too much, she suggests seeking professional support. “When it starts to become too heavy, or it starts to become a burden on their ability to take care of themselves, thats what we get to work on,” she explained. Thriveworks has launched its 2025 Pulse on Mental Health Report, diving into Americans’ perspectives on mental health, seeking help, and specific stressors. The results revealed that while 1 in 4 Americans (23%) are estimated to currently be in therapy, more than double that (48%) plan to be in the next 12 months. However, obstacles remain with cost, a lack of time, services not covered by insurance, and difficulty finding a therapist in their area, listed among the top reasons preventing people from getting help. Thriveworks aims to remove these barriers to care by offering high-quality, in-network and nationally available mental health services that meet people where they are. Every parent dreams of their child making and keeping friends with ease but sadly that isn’t reality for some kids. Xiomara Arrieta, LCSW with Thriveworks spoke with Washington Family to discuss how parents can help support their child if they’re struggling to make friends. Kids often model their behavior after their parents so Arrieta says that parents can work on social skills with their kids at home. She suggests putting down the screens and picking up a board game or going on a family walk. “Those kinds of things help the child to get a taste for socializing,” she adds. Being an introvert doesn’t look the same for everyone. There are four types–social, thinking, anxious and restrained– each with their own unique characteristics. Monica Cwynar, LCSW with Thriveworks chatted with HuffPost on how to embrace these different introverted personalities. If you’re an anxious introvert, Cwynar suggests slowly exposing yourself to more social situations. “Finding safe spaces or supportive individuals can empower them to engage socially at their own pace,” she adds. https://lnkd.in/gvH_fwzi

Words that come from those we trust can make or break us. As parents, it can be hard to know if something you said has a positive or negative impact on your child. Thriveworks psychologist, Dr. Crystal Saidi, offered her advice to Parade on phrases caregivers should be saying to their kids. According to Dr. Saidi, one of the most important phrases parents should say is “I love you no matter what.” "Children need to be reassured that they are loved and valued with no conditions," Dr. Saidi continued.“This phrase creates a safe emotional space where children can feel free to be their authentic selves, knowing that their parents' love is constant. It sends the message that they are valued and loved without having to be perfect." Check out more phrases parents should say here: https://lnkd.in/gdUAf7bS
