About us
The Reading League (TRL) is a national education nonprofit led by educators and reading experts dedicated to promoting knowledge to re-imagine the culture of literacy education and accelerate the global movement toward reading instruction rooted in science. The purpose of The Reading League is to increase knowledge of science-based approaches to teach reading as well as research that demystifies how people learn to benefit the lives of millions of students. We train and support educators and school leaders. By extension, we also serve parents, specialists, and researchers. We believe all children deserve to learn to read and all teachers can learn to teach them.

🌟 The Reading League’s chapter leaders make a difference in their communities every day. Our new #TRLChaptersInAction series celebrates their incredible work and achievements. Michael Solis, Associate Professor at UC Riverside and board member of The Reading League California, recently co-authored “Every Child Reads: Year Three Evaluation,” an award-winning evaluation report of Fulton County Schools' literacy initiative. The report, developed with colleagues from Gibson Consulting Group and Resources for Learning, LLC, earned first place in the 2025 American Educational Research Association Division H Outstanding Publications Competition for Program Evaluation. This work supported the district in strengthening and sustaining its literacy efforts—an outstanding example of research driving real-world impact. #ItTakesALeague

April is National Bilingual/Multilingual Learner Advocacy Month—a time to recognize the value of linguistic diversity in education. Dr. Elsa Cárdenas-Hagan reminds us that multilingual learners bring prior knowledge, experiences, and strengths related to language and learning. Educators play a key role in identifying and building upon these assets to enrich the classroom. #BilingualAdvocacy #MultilingualLearners #LiteracyForAll

"The scores have been low for 30 or 35 years. They've never really been where they should be. So that, unfortunately, allows people to believe that nothing can be done, and we just keep on doing what we're doing. But now, the science of reading has garnered wider attention." – Maria Murray, Ph.D. In the School Administrators Association of New York State’s latest issue of Vanguard, Maria discusses decades of stagnant reading scores—and how evidence-aligned instruction can change the trajectory. The article “The Science of Reading: Retrospectives, Perspectives, and the Path Forward” explores why it’s time to move beyond tradition and embrace what the research has always shown about literacy.
