Today is World Down Syndrome Day. We proudly partner with the The Golden Scoop and Max Mix Gourmet Spice Blends because we believe in supporting local businesses that provide opportunities for the uniquely abled. Through our growing partnerships, we've even been able to match those with different abilities to important positions within our health system. "When you look at somebody based upon what they can't do or where their abilities aren't, you bypass a segment of our community that wants to work," says Jeff Novorr, our health system’s vice president of hospitality services. "We're providing them opportunities to work and provide tremendous value in a complex health system that maybe they themselves didn't see as viable."

KC Current's season-opening match last Saturday was an exciting one for the health system in more ways than one! Carey Unger, our vice president of cardiac services, and cardiologist Dr. Mazhar Afaq participated in the ceremonial first kick. Additionally, Chad Baker, chief of staff for CPKC, and Raven Jemison, KC Current president, presented Unger a check for $60,000 to the health system's Adelaide C. Ward Women's Heart Center. The donation represents CPKC's commitment to heart health through its Goals for Heart program. Last season, the company pledged $1,000 for each of the 60 goals scored by the Current in the 2024 season.

The KC Current’s opening match is tomorrow! Yesterday, CPKC held a “Teal Rally” at its U.S. headquarters in downtown KC to celebrate the start of the new season – and invited members of our cardiovascular team to participate. They had a booth to talk to CPKC employees about heart health as part of the company's "Goals for Heart" program. Notably, CPKC also generously donated $60,000 to the health system's CardioScore program at the Adelaide C. Ward Women’s Heart Health Center.
