Sharon Peake, CPsychol, Founder and CEO of Shape Talent Ltd, is a powerhouse when it comes to advancing women’s careers. Her BUILD model is a brilliant framework—practical, impactful, and easy to apply. It highlights small yet powerful steps women can take to overcome the barriers that hold them back: Bu – Build your support crew: Find a sponsor, mentor, and coach—ideally, all three. I - Invest in yourself as if you are investing in the business L – Leverage your network. a range of people who can help you in 3 key areas: operationally, strategically and also with your professional development D – Divide the load: Advocate for a fair split of unpaid and invisible labor. Love this approach! Which part of the BUILD model resonates with you most?
IOD Director of the Year - EDI ‘24 | Management Today Women in Leadership Power List ‘24 | Global Diversity List ‘23 (Snr Execs) | D&I Consultancy of the Year | UN Women CSW67-69 participant | Accelerating gender equity
Are you taking your own professional development seriously? That was one of the questions I asked the audience during my #OneTechWorld presentation on Friday where I shared the 4Ds to women's career progression. These are: 1. Double Burden - of paid and unpaid work, which falls disproportionately to women 2. Double Bind - the likeability / competence tradeoff imposed on women 3. Discrimination and everyday sexism - from sexual harassment to everyday microaggressions 4. Development Gap - which sees women missing out on development and career support I then shared my BUILD model - small but powerful actions women can take to address these barriers: Bu – Build a support crew. Get a sponsor / mentor / coach – preferably all three! A sponsor should be someone in a senior position in your business – 2 levels about you is helpful, so they are at a level that can influence your promotion. Sponsorship will accelerate your visibility. I - Invest in yourself as if you are investing in the business: Undertake critical job assignments –that might be high profile stretch assignments or projects. These things help you to be seen and build a positive reputation. This often means putting your hand up before you feel ready – don’t wait until you meet 100% of the criteria! L – Leverage your network. Build and use your network well – make sure you have a range of people who can help you in 3 key areas: operationally, strategically and also with your professional development D – Divide unpaid work fairly. Examine how domestic responsibilities are shared at home and ensure the division is equitable for your family set up. For anyone who missed the session but would like to catch the replay, it is available (for free!) for the next month here: bit.ly/OTW25-FREE WeAreTheCity #GenderEquality #WomenInLeadership

🌟 Congratulations to The Quorum Initiative Advisory Board Member, Ellen Federico! 🌟 Her inspiring book, "Butterfly Island and the Invincible Crew", has been honored as a "2024 Females of Fiction Award" winner by Hindi's Libraries! 🎉 We’re thrilled to celebrate Ellen’s remarkable achievement and her contribution to empowering female voices in literature. 📚✨ #QuorumInitiative #FemalesOfFiction #MonarchButterflies
Founder/President of The Event Group Inc.® Writer-Author, Certified Monarch Butterfly Conservationist, Milkweed to Monarch Workshop Host
We're honored to be recipients of Hindi's Libraries "2024 Females of Fiction Awards." After the recent announcement by US Fish and Wildlife Services proposing the Monarch Butterfly as “Threatened” on the Endangered Species list, it’s important children become more involved in planting habitats to prevent Monarchs from disappearing by 2080. Our new children’s picture book (ages 5-9) called “Butterfly Island and the Invincible Crew” is an excellent introduction for young readers to butterfly conservation and recovery efforts following environmental storm losses, replacing despair with hope in action. Inspired by a true story, a group of island children band together to restore washed away dreams and explore nature's wonders in a kid-sized adventure.”
