We're a marine cargo operating partnership of the Port of Seattle and Port of Tacoma.
About us
The Northwest Seaport Alliance brings together two of the premier harbor facilities in North America to form a single, integrated gateway for marine cargo. The ports of Seattle and Tacoma joined forces in August 2015 to unify management of their marine cargo facilities, strengthening the gateway and attracting more marine cargo to the Puget Sound region. We are the third largest container load center in North America, and regional marine cargo facilities are also a major center for bulk, breakbulk, project/heavy-lift cargoes, automobiles and trucks. Strategically located in the northwest corner of the U.S., we offer shorter transits from Asia, and are the first and last ports of call for many trans-Pacific liner services. We pride ourselves on being proactive and performance-driven, and put unrelenting focus on delivering on a promise of operational excellence and best-in-class service for our customers worldwide. Make our advantages yours.

In early March, Terminal 5 welcomed the 16,000 TEU MSC Ilenia, the largest container vessel to call the terminal to date. The vessel is part of the Chinook service, which offers direct service between Vietnam, China, and Busan. The NWSA has made proactive and ongoing capital investments to ensure the long-term viability of our gateway. We are now realizing the return on these investments through the ability to handle and efficiently work the largest vessels calling the U.S. West Coast. Terminal 5 now has 185-acres of cargo capacity and is the first NWSA international container terminal to offer shore power capability at two berths. Photos Courtesy of Tamara Benson-Kulp

An exciting announcement for rail service in our gateway! BNSF, Norfolk Southern and the NWSA are collaborating to create a faster rail service to Chicago and the Ohio Valley. This exciting service product will reduce transit times from the Pacific Northwest to the mid-west by 3-days, getting goods delivered from our harbors into inland markets that much quicker. Last week The Northwest Seaport Alliance attended the #TransportationGo25 conference in Minneapolis, MN. The annual conference is organized by the Specialty Soya and Grains Alliance who attracts soybean and grain producers, exporters, service providers, and regulatory influencers from the greater Midwest and beyond. Our CEO John Wolfe was a keynote speaker at the event, which provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of NWSA as a key export gateway for containerized specialty soybeans and grains. With approximately 25,000 TEUs exported annually through our marine terminals, soybeans are an important export commodity in our gateway. This was a great event to engage with key stakeholders involved in the trade of soybeans to the global marketplace.
