About us
The Nature Conservancy is a global environmental nonprofit working to create a world where people and nature can thrive. We're proud of what we've accomplished since our founding in 1951: The Nature Conservancy has protected more than 117 million acres of land and 5,000 miles of rivers worldwide — and we operate more than 100 marine conservation projects globally. We have more than 1 million members and work in 81 countries and territories, using a collaborative approach that engages local communities, governments, the private sector, and other partners. Guided by science, we create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world's toughest challenges so that nature and people can thrive together. We are tackling climate change, conserving lands, waters and oceans at an unprecedented scale, providing food and water sustainably and helping make cities more sustainable. Announcing a first-of-its-kind wildfire resilience insurance policy.
This week, The Nature Conservancy and WTW announced a first-of-its-kind insurance policy that takes into account efforts to mitigate fire risk for California homeowners — an innovative model for incorporating nature-based solutions into the insurance market. The program is designed to incentivize proactive forest management through methods like tree thinning and prescribed burns, which are proven to reduce wildfire risks. By aligning financial tools with conservation goals, we can create scalable solutions that not only mitigate risks but also enhance the health of our forests and the well-being of our communities. 🌲 Check out the coverage in Environmental Finance (https://lnkd.in/eu6WxW9J) and ImpactAlpha (https://lnkd.in/e5kA9k9c) and learn more here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eWPAaUc3 📷 © Stuart Palley The Nature Conservancy in California

Turning the Tide 🌊 The waters off of Long Island have long struggled with pollution and loss of underwater habitat. In recent years, a multi-generational group of Shinnecock women have taken up waders and begun growing kelp in Shinnecock Bay--helping clean the water while reclaiming an Indigenous practice.
