However, it is challenging for the users of these methods to understand the statistical properties enjoyed by each method and then explicitly specify its underlying model assumptions. In this presentation, Dr. Yixin Fang will cover two basic statistical strategies of conducting causal inference in non-interventional studies; the weighting strategy and the standardization strategy. Although these two strategies are different at the beginning, at the end they are robust for estimating the treatment effect under the same set of identifiability conditions and therefore the same kind of sensitivity analysis is needed for evaluating the impact caused by the violation of these conditions. The material covered in the presentation is taken from Dr. Fang’s new book “Causal Inference in Pharmaceutical Statistics”. 📌 About the Speaker Dr. Yixin Fang is a Director of Medical Affairs and Health Technology Assessment Statistics (MA&HTA Statistics) and a research fellow of AbbVie Community of Science (ACOS). His research interests include causal inference and machine learning with applications in clinical trials and real-world studies. He co-edited a book titled “Real-world evidence in medical product development” in 2023 and authored a book titled “Causal inference in pharmaceutical statistics” in 2024. This talk will provide a high-level summary of clinical trial data analytic strategies for primary, secondary, exploratory efficacy endpoints, and safety analysis. 📌 The estimand concept will be discussed with examples. 📌 Overall type I error rate control and missing data handling strategy in pivotal phase 3 trials will be emphasized for primary and key secondary endpoints analysis in a pivotal trial. 📌 Sensitivity or supportive analysis of primary endpoint will be discussed. 📌 An Alzheimer’s disease trial example will be used to illustrate clinical trial data analytic strategies. ⭐ About the Speaker: Deli Wang, Ph.D., MMed, is a Director of Statistics and Research Fellow in AbbVie. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biostatistics in 2004 from the University of Iowa, USA. His medical training in Beijing Medical University in China (currently Peking University Health Service Center) and statistical expertise give him a unique perspective for drug development. He is currently the statistical lead in new drug development for neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease and ALS. He has experience in design and conduct of Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials in multiple therapeutic areas such as neurology, psychiatry, oncology, nephrology, and immunology. He is active in statistical methodology research and has published statistical methodology papers/book chapters on interim Go/No-Go decision-making methodology, multiplicity adjustment, and statistical methodology to demonstrate disease modification in neurodegenerative disease clinical trials.
