About us
We are a community of people who believe in taking action. Our role is to help you make the most effective donations possible in the fight against extreme poverty. Since our founding in 2013, we have compiled a list of research-backed charities working on interventions against the multidimensional factors of poverty, resulting in over $100 million donated to high-impact charities. Our Story: Founded in 2013 by philosopher Peter Singer and former executive Charlie Bresler, our own history demonstrates how one person asking themselves what their individual impact can be led to positive transformation for millions of people impacted by extreme poverty. We provide tools that make it easy for people to make smart, cost-effective and highly impactful donations. These include a curated list of evidence-based charities, a tool to help you calculate your annual recommended donation amount, and a calculator that helps donors see how far their dollars can go in the developing world. 📚Download Peter Singer’s The Life You Can Save eBook or celebrity-read audiobook FREE here: www.thelifeyoucansave.org/the-book ___________ ⚠️ Beware of Job Scams Fraudulent job offers claiming to be from The Life You Can Save have been reported. Rethinking How We Define Poverty: It’s More Than Just Income Poverty isn’t just about money—it’s about interconnected challenges in health, education, and living standards. The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), developed by the Oxford Poverty & Human Development Initiative (OPHI), University of Oxford and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), measures acute poverty across three key areas: 1️⃣ Health: Nutrition and child survival 2️⃣ Education: Years of schooling and attendance 3️⃣ Living Standards: Access to clean water, electricity, and sanitation A person is considered multidimensionally poor if they face deprivations in at least one-third of these weighted indicators, meaning they’re simultaneously struggling with multiple barriers to a decent quality of life. For example, a nutritious diet costs $3.54/day, but many in extreme poverty live on less than $2.15/day—making it impossible to afford the basics for healthy living. By redefining poverty, we can create more effective solutions to address its root causes. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dmV_cZBu #extremepoverty #globalimpact #health #education #livingstandards
