What does 25+ years in cybersecurity teach you? That tech tools are only part of the equation—real impact comes from strong leadership. After 25+ years in cybersecurity, 12 of which were in military Information Operations, one thing is clear—technology alone isn’t enough. Leadership matters. Cyber threats evolve daily, but the core principles of strong cybersecurity leadership remain the same: - Be Proactive, Not Reactive – Waiting for an attack to happen is not a strategy. The best defense is anticipating threats before they emerge. - Security is a Culture, Not a Tool – Cyber resilience isn’t just about technology—it’s about people. A security-first mindset should be embedded in every level of an organization. - Adapt or Fall Behind – Threat actors innovate fast. The best leaders drive continuous learning, embrace emerging tech, and never settle for “good enough.” - Partnerships Strengthen Defense – No one fights cybercrime alone. The most effective security strategies come from strong collaborations across the industry. At Cyderes, we apply these leadership principles every day to help organizations navigate an increasingly complex threat landscape. Cybersecurity is a business enabler, and strong leadership is what makes the difference. #CyberSecurity #Leadership #Cyderes

Medusa is spreading, are you prepared? Medusa, a ransomware threat first identified in 2021, has now breached the data of more than 300 people since February. The cyber attacks frequently use phishing campaigns or gain access to data through unpatched software vulnerablities. How does ransomware work? By carrying out double extortion attacks -- first they steal data, then they threaten to publish that data unless companies pay and pay big. Spearwig, the group responsible for the most current wave of attacks, has demanded ransoms of up to $15 million. What can you do to protect your organization? At a minimum, enact and enforce a zero trust policy, ensuring that all accounts have password logins that are changed frequently. Require multifactor authentication for all services and make sure all operating systems, software and firmware are up to date. Identity security isn’t just a checkbox—it’s the foundation of modern cybersecurity. As we recognize National Identity Management Day, it's a reminder that compromised credentials remain one of the biggest threats to organizations today. The Identity Defined Security Alliance (IDSA) continues to highlight how identity-centric security can mitigate risks, yet many companies still struggle with fragmented access controls, excessive permissions, and weak authentication practices. The challenge isn’t just technical; it’s cultural. Identity security requires collaboration across IT, security, and business teams to ensure the right people have the right access at the right time—without friction or risk. At Cyderes, we see firsthand how strong identity practices can transform security postures. When organizations embrace identity as the new perimeter, they build resilience against evolving threats. How is your organization strengthening its identity security strategy?
