Promising news for Pennsylvania families. The Pennsylvania Department of Education has launched a grant program to eliminate lead in drinking water in elementary schools and childcare facilities. Even low levels of lead in the bloodstream can affect children’s health and cause irreversible impacts to the brain. Eligible facilities can apply for testing and remediation. This initiative prioritizes underserved and low-income communities, ensuring every child has access to safe drinking water: https://lnkd.in/eZRdrX6c Women for a Healthy Environment

As students in Pittsburgh’s KRUNK Movement program learned, some things are universal, including concern for the environment. KRUNK youths and students at Uganda’s Kichwamba High School collaborated on a new hip-hop song promoting sustainability. It’s called “Suubi,” or “hope” in the Luganda language. The soulful song addresses topics from water pollution to deforestation and was recently released on all streaming platforms. KRUNK is a project of the Hazelwood-based nonprofit Center of Life, and the song is rooted in the group’s long-running partnership with the Green Building Alliance. Let's support these young artists and their message of hope for a sustainable future. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eTqeS2Qa

Commercial solar projects are surging across our region, including this fire hall in downtown Greensburg, which the city fire chief says will save money on energy costs. One unknown element about solar development is the future of the 30% federal tax credit on solar power projects under the Inflation Reduction Act. “There is a lot of bipartisan support in Congress for the Investment Tax Credit and the Direct Pay for nonprofits that are 30% and more in some cases,” said Sharon Pillar, executive director of the Pennsylvania Solar Center. Organized by Women for a Healthy Environment, the Youth Voices Leading the Way for Environmental and Climate Justice virtual panel showcased the powerful voices of Pittsburgh's next generation of environmental leaders. Members of the Phipps Youth Climate Advocacy Committee discussed the documentary "Youth v. Gov" and addressed the recent Supreme Court decision not to hear the landmark Juliana v. United States climate case. "We're going to be the ones that are really severely impacted by this. Our children, our grandchildren, are going to face the full effect.” Learn more from 90.5 WESA's Gabriela Herring: https://lnkd.in/evrT9eyF #environment #climate #SupremeCourt
