When Austin Balinski — a Research & Development scientist — got his start with Clorox through our internship program, he hit the ground running. “Even as an intern, I was able to do impactful work. I really enjoyed the camaraderie and teamwork, and I knew I wanted to come back,” says Austin. “And then coming on full-time, my first project was our biggest innovation launch of the year. No pressure,” he laughs. His role has continued to evolve during his four years here. “Maybe a year-and-a-half ago, this idea of ‘small batch’ hit my plate. Since then, I've been working with the folks in the Pleasanton campus at the small batch pilot plant, which has allowed us to create fast-to-market small batch projects,” Austin explains. “We’ve been able to partner with internal and external brands like Hidden Valley Ranch and Two Roosters Ice Cream on custom small-batch flavors, which have gotten a great response.” With this new program, he explains, we can significantly reduce the minimum order quantity and the timeline. “We make from one to 5,000 lip balms at the small-batch pilot plant, whereas at the main plant we make 110,000 a run,” says Austin. “This allows us to turn things around from idea to launch in about three months versus the typical timeline of well over a year.” Austin’s optimistic that both his and the business’s growth will continue. “I always feel supported by my manager — there’s a good culture of getting feedback and hearing about opportunity areas,” he says. “I feel like every year has led me closer to the growth that I want to see in my career.” 💡 Interested in joining a collaborative and innovative team?
