You never know how someone you meet might change your life. For Kim Tiemeier, a chance friendship at the gym led to a decision that would save another’s life. When Kim learned that her friend’s father, Brian, needed a kidney, she felt a calling to help. After undergoing testing, she discovered she was a perfect match—and didn’t hesitate to donate. Meeting Brian and his family only reaffirmed her decision. “My recipient’s family needed their dad, grandpa, husband, and brother, and it was my privilege to do this for another human being,” Kim shared. Now, 10 months post-surgery, both Kim and Brian are thriving—living their best lives, thanks to the gift of organ donation. This Donate Life Month, we celebrate inspiring stories like theirs. Breaking News in Heart Failure Research! 📣 The Christ Hospital Health Network is the first site internationally in the AMBER-HFpEF trial, a phase 2 clinical study evaluating the novel drug CK-586 for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)—a condition affecting nearly half of all heart failure patients. “Imagine every heartbeat is a bicep curl. Now picture a 20-pound weight added to every curl,” said Ankit Bhatia, MD, FACC, Principal Investigator for the trial and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiologist at The Christ Hospital. “That’s what patients suffering from HFpEF deal with every day. At The Christ Hospital Heart & Vascular Institute, we believe this first-in-human trial medication can help the heart relax better, a represents a potential groundbreaking therapy for patients with HFpEF." This trial, available through the Carl and Edyth Lindner Research Center, aims to improve heart relaxation and reduce symptoms like shortness of breath and fluid buildup.
