Supporting quality and trust in audit, to build confidence in Britain’s capital markets.

About us

We bring together auditors from across the profession as a single, standalone voice to challenge the status quo, drive quality and shape best practice in UK audit. We believe that earning trust in UK audit and assurance is fundamental to building confidence in Britain’s capital markets. Driving change requires collective commitment, a willingness to challenge and an evidence-based approach to advancing best practice. Our strength is the combination of our collective expertise to challenge the status quo; we are action-oriented, forward-looking and provide objective perspectives on audit quality to drive real change. A trusted, forward-looking profession mitigates risk, builds confidence and enables investment in UK capital markets. We inform and shape the future of public interest entity audit in the UK, through in-depth analysis of audit practice and outcomes. Our research combines previously segmented, siloed insights to provide an industry-wide perspective on current practice, and clear-cut recommendations for areas of development and improvement. We have strong views on the future of the audit profession, formed over years of experience and shaped by our analysis and thought leadership. We combine rigor with the working context of the audit profession, to promote and advance consistently high standards and quality in audit. Our best practice guidance and recommendations are evidence-based, informed by the reality of current practice and outcomes. We seek to proactively identify both shortcomings and best practice in public interest entity audit to support a more robust, resilient, forward-looking profession, delivering value for and enabling confidence among all stakeholders.

Reflecting back on a successful launch of the CPIA last week, which addressed some challenging issues and resulted in some good debate. Looking forward to playing my part in driving the CPIA forward as a director.

We are excited to share that our formal launch event for The Centre for Public Interest Audit was held this week on Wednesday 19th March 2025 in London. The event brought together senior leaders from government, regulators, business, investors, academics, and the audit profession for an engaging day of forward-thinking discussion. Highlights of the day included an inspiring keynote address on “Growth and Regulation,” from Richard Moriarty (FRC CEO) and a thought-provoking fireside chat on the case for reform, and a timely dynamic panel discussion on the scope and impact of public interest. The event provided a great platform to explore market reforms that support sustainable growth and build trust in capital markets, a core part of our purpose. A big thank you to our Chair, Baroness Ford, and all our speakers and attendees for making this milestone truly memorable. We’re proud to be shaping the future of the audit profession and promoting quality and transparency across capital markets. We look forward to the days and weeks ahead as we continue to engage, share valuable insights, and drive meaningful change together. #CPIA #LaunchEvent #AuditQuality

Exciting times in the world of audit, with the formal launch of The Centre For Public Interest Audit and the much anticipated audit reform bill, which we hope will introduce more proportionality into the regime. The Building Societies Association's position is well documented - we support a 'Strong and Simple' for audit, that doesn't compromise on quality, but is more risk-based and value-for-money.

It was great to attend the launch of The Centre For Public Interest Audit earlier this week. The afternoon was filled with thought-provoking conversations, offering diverse perspectives on public interest audits from regulators, investors, and audit professionals. The insights shared provided a valuable glimpse into the future of the audit profession and PIE audits, especially as Government embarks upon Audit and Corporate Governance Reform. The CPIA is poised to become a vital voice for the audit profession, looking forward to seeing the impact of their valuable work.
