🚨 Heat pumps are booming — and so are their problems. We’ve talked to nearly a thousand contractors and building operators. The pattern is clear: ✅ Heat pumps are efficient and essential ⚠️ But when they fail, they fail quietly — until comfort or performance tanks. So why don’t we catch issues like refrigerant leaks or capacity degradation earlier? Because HVAC systems today rely on: -Snapshot data, not trends -Thresholds, not context -Little to no connectivity -No centralized automatic analysis Other industries have fully embraced and adopted modern monitoring technology. HVAC hasn’t. We built Copilot to close that gap — a retrofit monitoring solution that manages all your systems, all the time. It analyzes complex relationships between data points to: -Catch issues before they become problems -Diagnose specific root causes remotely -Convert emergencies into scheduled service -Improve service margins and spend more time on high revenue, high margin work HVAC shouldn’t be reactive. It should be predictive. #HVAC #SmartBuildings #PredictiveMaintenance #ThaloLabs #HeatPumps

A new EU study backs up what we see all the time: heat pumps are magic… until they’re not 🪄 ➡️ 😬. When they’re undercharged or leaking (which we see in over a third of systems!), performance tanks and energy bills spike 🚨 💸 Thalo gives you realtime visibility into system health. Want to see what’s really going on with your heat pumps? 📅 Book a demo here: https://lnkd.in/eHn69yAc #HeatPumps #HVAC #BuildingOperations #EnergyEfficiency #FacilitiesManagement #PropTech #ClimateTech #DecarbTech
Super interesting study from the EU validating something we've seen repeatedly at Thalo Labs: heat pumps are magical devices—but ONLY when they're operating correctly! Ever wondered why it's warm inside when it should be cool, or been blindsided by an unexpectedly high electricity bill? You're not alone. Optimal heat pump operation requires: 1️⃣ Proper refrigerant charge 2️⃣ No leaks 3️⃣ Proactive maintenance Thalo’s platform continuously monitors exactly these metrics, and our findings are even more concerning than this study: over 1/3 of heat pumps we track are either undercharged or leaking, leading directly to significant inefficiencies, higher energy bills, and increased emissions. The good news? There's an easy fix: real-time health data on your heat pump. Thalo Labs' service ensures heat pumps deliver the efficiency, reliability, and savings they promise. Every heat pump owner deserves peace of mind—and we're here to deliver exactly that. 🚨 A2L Refrigerants Are Here—Are You Ready? 🚨 If you're in building operations, HVAC installation and service, you’ve probably heard about A2L refrigerants like R32, R454B, or R1234yf. These new refrigerants promise lower global warming potential (GWP) below 700—but come with new challenges, especially regarding flammability and safety compliance. Why the Shift? Older refrigerants like R410A and R134 helped phase out ozone-depleting chemicals, but they still have a high GWP. A2Ls are the next step: designed for both low ozone depletion and lower climate impact. 🔥 The Catch? A2Ls are more flammable, which means stricter monitoring and safety precautions—which can be especially challenging for retrofits. If you’re installing or upgrading larger commercial systems, compliance with ASHRAE 15-2022 & ISO 5149 is critical. How Thalo Helps: Refrigerant leaks are costly and dangerous. Thalo’s direct and indirect sensing technology meets compliance requirements while keeping operating costs down—catching leaks early, keeping people safe, and reducing maintenance costs. As A2Ls roll out, proactive monitoring isn’t optional—it’s essential. Need a smarter approach? Let’s talk. 💡 #HVAC #Copilot #BuildingOperations #Sustainability #A2L #Thalo

Managing the refrigerants that power HVAC systems like heat pumps and air conditioners makes business sense—cutting costs, preventing downtime, and protecting expensive building systems. And the environmental benefits? Huge. One kilogram of R-410A has nearly 5,000x the climate impact of CO2 over 20 years. Thalo Labs can now help facilities teams optimize almost all of the HVAC equipment that heats and cools our buildings. Learn more about our work in this recent Propmodo feature: https://lnkd.in/gn6mQp9W and this Collaborative Fund blog post: https://lnkd.in/e63e7ZSF. If you're curious how Thalo can help your hardworking heat pump this season, book a demo here: https://lnkd.in/dSvbsBd2 #Refrigerant #Sustainability #HVACManagement
You've probably noticed that refrigerant is having a moment in sustainability spheres, from EPA to cold chain. This critical working fluid powers the efficiency of all-electric HVAC systems like air conditioners and heat pumps. Refrigerant isn't supposed to be a consumable or "used up" in the process (unlike, for example, natural gas, which is burned) yet in practice, it often is—and that comes with significant economic and environmental costs. At Thalo Labs, we've been tackling this issue head-on. Managing refrigerant-based systems—like heat pumps, air conditioners, and chillers—makes bonkers business sense, and saves a wild amount of emissions. We recently got featured in Propmodo for the new addition of refrigerant to our platform: https://lnkd.in/dzsP37Zr and went into detail with our friends at Collaborative Fund for a deep dive on their blog: https://lnkd.in/dqNQHzWx Reducing leaks and optimizing system performance doesn't just cut costs—it can prevent unnecessary downtime, protect expensive assets, and keep your tenants happy. Let's breakdown an example: -A single kilogram of R-410A—commonly used in air conditioners and heat pumps—can cost $100 and has a GHG WP20 of 4,900, meaning its impact is nearly 5,000 times worse than CO2 over a 20-year period. -Beyond the cost of the refrigerant itself, addressing leaks can be expensive. Emergency repairs for a broken heat pump can easily run into the thousands of dollars. -Plus, the whole time it's leaking, it will operate at terrible efficiency. That's the hardest working compressor in show business. Stay tuned- we'll be sharing more details soon about what we've been learning in the field. For now, if you have a hard working heat pump in your life, Thalo would love to help give it a holiday present it'll love for years.
