🤝The second partner we are introducing you to, is taking us to Belgium: Ghent University. 🎓Inaugurated in 1817, counts 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝗶 and it's the 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗞𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮. 🧫 The IBD Research Unit is 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 (𝗶𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗼, 𝗲𝘅 𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼, 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗽, 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀) to study the inflamed bowel, translational medicine and initiating academic clinic trials, biobank, gut fibrosis and gut-brain communication. 🔬 𝗨𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀, 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗘𝗪 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗱, 𝗶𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 of all the produced biomaterials, and of the 𝟰𝗗 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀. 🌍We are happy to begin our journey across Europe together, and what better way to start than to fly to - and introduce you to - our first Italian partner Università di Pisa and Centro di Ricerca "E. Piaggio". 🎓The 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗶𝘀𝗮 is a public institution, officially 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝟭𝟯𝟰𝟯. With 𝟮𝟬 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 and high-level research centers in multiple areas. 🐙In TENTACLE, this institution is 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗳𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 “𝗘. 𝗣𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗼” 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, one of the oldest interdisciplinary research and technology transfer centers in Europe. Since its foundation in September 1965, the Center “E. Piaggio” has paved the way for the 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, with bioengineering and robotics as main research topics. 📚UNIPI 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 the 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗯-𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 for the multifunctioning toolhead. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿: 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗖𝗟𝗘 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 has come to an end, and we want to highlight a crucial aspect of prevention: 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 (𝗖𝗥𝗖). 🐙 At 𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗖𝗟𝗘, we are pioneering 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 for 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 (𝗙𝗔𝗣) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗹𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀 (𝗨𝗖)—two conditions that significantly increase the risk of CRC. While current treatments rely on highly invasive surgeries like proctocolectomy, our project is developing 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 using 𝟰𝗗 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲. 𝟱 𝗶𝗻 𝟭𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 are affected by FAP or UC, with a 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀. 𝗞𝗶𝗰𝗸-𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗖𝗟𝗘’𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝘂𝘁 🏥✨ On January 20-21, leading scientists, surgeons, and medical experts from across Europe gathered in Würzburg, Germany, to 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗖𝗟𝗘, an EU-funded project set to revolutionize 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. With a strong focus on 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘆, in-situ 4D bioprinting, and precision medicine, TENTACLE aims to develop 𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴-𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 that reduce patient trauma and improve surgical outcomes. Backed by 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟳 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝘀 under the 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, this four-year project brings together 10 partners from 6 countries, combining expertise in biomedical engineering, tissue engineering, and endoscopic surgery.
