We kicked off our first quarter state of the company with energy, connection, and a little friendly chaos, thanks to a competitive round of Ears, Eyes, Elbows, or Egg. 🥚👂👀💪 Beyond the laughs, we spent time getting to know each other better, reflecting on how far we’ve come and where we’re headed. We’re proud to be on track for a big year, doing what we do best: supporting our customers with focus, grit, and heart. We’re fired up for what’s ahead.🚀

We spoke with Taje Wilson about her new role and combating restlessness. When and how did you get involved with Steele Benefits? I started working in 2023 after finding out about Steele through the Orr Fellowship Program. I interviewed Wes and Katy and really connected with them. Why did you choose Steele? I have a background in HR management and customer service. I really enjoyed chatting with the team, and I connected with their mission. Why do you stay? I stay for the people. We have a great team. They are always willing to help, and I think that’s important in any work environment. We show up for each other. How has your role evolved since then? I have transitioned from a Customer Success Specialist to a Customer Success Manager. This role is more client-facing. I initially did more behind-the-scenes work, helping with communication, reporting, and billing. Now, I direct the customers’ needs to technology or the department they need. I do a lot more problem-solving and come up with creative solutions so our customers’ needs are met. What does a typical workday for you look like? I check my email first every morning and respond to clients and the internal team. I have meetings internally and with clients, brokers, carriers, etc. Other than this, every day looks very different. I run reports, audit cases, train customers on Selerix, plan for Open Enrollment, and help solve complex issues as they come up. You own a small business. How has Steele helped you prepare? I have a cosmetology license and service clients on weekends, specializing in protective styles. Steele has helped me to be more intentional about how I interact with my clients. Do you have a favorite Steele memory? The Steele Office Olympics. It was the most I’ve laughed at a work event. Outside of work, what kind of hobbies do you have? Doing hair, working out, traveling, and trying new restaurants. What’s an interesting fact not many people know about you? I have a bucket list, and I do one thing off it every year. I went skydiving for my 21st birthday. Other things on the list are hiking the Manitou Incline in Colorado, visiting Jamaica, and doing the Hot Ones Challenge. What celebrity would you like to meet at Starbucks for a cup of coffee? Singer Erykah Badu. She has beautiful energy and is very quirky. She’d be a fun person to sit down and talk to. Do you have a favorite book or movie? Why? I love The Hunger Games series. My favorite genre for books and movies is dystopian. What’s a bad habit you wish you could break? I have like 10 water bottles open at one time in different places. I eventually drink all of them, but I need one in every room/space. What’s something you love that everyone else dislikes? Spicy Margaritas. It’s my go-to drink order, and my family and friends think it’s awful and remind me of that every time I order it. If you can’t sleep in the middle of the night, what do you do? I watch SpongeBob.
