Sonoma County Parks and SONOMA COUNTY REGIONAL PARKS FOUNDATION has added a new electric all-terrain vehicle (EV ATV) to its fleet, thanks to the Sonoma Clean Power Non-Profit EV Program. This new addition supports park operations like maintenance, emergency response, and visitor services, all while reducing emissions and contributing to climate action. This shift to an electric vehicle aligns with the park system's broader sustainability goals and enhances the park experience for both visitors and staff. Ranger Assistant Laurelin shared, “The EVs are quieter, so they’re less disruptive for both wildlife and park visitors. And they’re friendlier vehicles, with open doors and a low profile. I've been quite interested to hear what developments have been taking place between Sonoma Clean Power and County of Sonoma regarding geothermal power. After all, PG&E rates have gone up substantially over the past 5+ years. And we're one of the few places in the U.S. with an abundant source geothermal power. How are we harnessing it? Joining the panel discussion: Sonoma Clean Power's Legislative Policy & Community Engagement Manager Miles Horton, and county supervisors Lynda Hopkins (Dist. 5) and James Gore (Dist.4). At the Cloverdale Veterans Memorial Building, on Thursday, February 6th, from 6-7:30 PM, we’ll discuss the potential benefits and impacts of next-generation geothermal energy on our local and state climate goals, grid reliability, energy affordability, local jobs, and more. This event will be in partnership with District 4 Supervisor James Gore, City of Cloverdale Mayor Todd Lands, and others.

Congratulations to our recent graduates! Aubrie, a Programs Specialist, just received her bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies--and Sylvia, our Senior Customer Service Representative, received her bachelor's in Sociology!

Thanks to Sonoma Clean Power, Sonoma Ecology Center has added a new EV to the fleet! We just received this update! "The Subaru Solterra lease granted by Sonoma Clean Power has been a great boost to our work at SEC. It has room for all the field equipment and safety supplies we need during a day of monitoring streamflow, water quality and other important research around Sonoma Valley and beyond. It also functions as a mobile field lab space! Pictured here you can see our Research Team Project Manager and Aquatic Ecologist, Wendy Hayes testing water clarity (or turbidity). This simple test can help us determine if water is clear enough for species like our local Steelhead (Rainbow Trout) to be able to see prey items and thrive. Thank you, SCP, from all the fishes, frogs and other water-loving beings of Sonoma Valley!"

Our annual holiday skating shows at Snoopy's Home Ice are coming up! Join us for free outdoor skating shows on December 6th, 7th, and 8th - and this year, there are two indoor shows on Saturday, December 7th benefitting Redwood Ice Theater Company.

Thanks to Sonoma Clean Power, Greenacre Homes & School is driving toward a greener future! In 2018, SCP helped Greenacre purchase their first hybrid Volt. Now in 2024, they have added a fully electric Bolt to their fleet, allowing them to transport youth with zero emissions and no range anxiety! Their staff and youth love the quiet, tech-filled experience, and they are proud to reduce their carbon footprint. With SCP’s support, GreenAcre Homes and School are embracing a sustainable future.

The Pepperwood Foundation was awarded $20,000 from SCP and Calpine's Community Benefits Grant to create a conservation workforce development program for youth aged 15-18 from disadvantaged communities. This program will provide practical skills in conservation and land stewardship through habitat restoration, ecological monitoring, and environmental education outreach. By empowering youth, the foundation aims to cultivate future environmental leaders capable of addressing the challenges they will face. The Calpine Energy Solutions program provides grant funding to organizations in the communities served by SCP. The focus areas of these grants include advancing clean energy initiatives, promoting green jobs, supporting environmental education and stewardship, and enhancing equity and diversity. This partnership and the associated grants help foster sustainable development and community engagement within the regions we serve.
