SOCMA extends its condolences on the passing of John Dickson, founder of Nation Ford Chemical Co., a long-standing and valued member of our association. Mr. Dickson played a foundational role in establishing a company that continues to thrive under the next generation of leadership. In recognition of his legacy, SOCMA is making a donation to his local food bank. Our thoughts are with his family, the team at Nation Ford Chemical, and all who were impacted by his life and work.
We are saddened to share the passing of John Dickson, co-founder of NFC and a respected leader, mentor, and advocate in the American manufacturing community. Born on December 7, 1937, in Mt. Vernon, TX, John was a proud U.S. Navy veteran and earned his degree in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University. A visionary in his field, he helped shape NFC into the company it is today, leaving a lasting legacy through his leadership and dedication. John was a lifelong champion of American manufacturing and fair trade, known for his unwavering commitment to ethical business and a strong domestic industry. He was also a devoted member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and an avid gardener who found joy in cultivating both plants and people. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the values he held dear: innovation, integrity, and collaboration. These principles remain at the heart of our company and will continue to guide us forward in his honor. John’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his work, his service, and his friendships. He will be deeply missed.

As the voice of the specialty chemical sector, we are committed to advancing policies that strengthen domestic production, fuel innovation, and position the United States as a global leader in industrial competitiveness. Our members are essential to America’s industrial ecosystem. They transform basic raw materials into high-value chemistries used in pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, agriculture, construction, aerospace, electronics, and energy. These innovations power American-made products and support high-paying jobs across the country. As this new tariff framework takes effect, specialty chemical manufacturers face deep uncertainty. Many SOCMA members are now confronting significantly higher costs for the raw materials they rely on—inputs often unavailable at scale within the U.S. These sudden shifts are occurring in the context of complex, global supply chains and long-standing customer commitments. The stakes are high, and so is the pressure to adapt quickly. SOCMA shares the Trump administration’s goal of revitalizing American manufacturing. We urge the administration to take a strategic, sector-informed approach—one that ensures affordable input access, promotes resilient supply chains, and leverages the unique value of the specialty chemical sector. We stand ready to work with policymakers to ensure this bold agenda delivers its full promise for U.S. manufacturing without unintended setbacks.
