  • As we intentionally highlight community and culture, we look ahead to June 19th, a moment to celebrate and honor "Juneteenth". Juneteenth is a transformative day in our Nation's history, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It marks explicitly the moment when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865 and spread the news of the Emancipation Proclamation being signed and instituted, albeit almost three years after it was initially issued. We must recognize that Juneteenth is more than just a date on the calendar, a federal holiday, or a day off; it is a celebration of freedom and the continual journey toward equality and justice for all. Juneteenth reminds us that it is imperative to acknowledge our past to build a better future. In recognition of Juneteenth, I encourage us to reflect on and amplify its significance. Additionally, I challenge us all to educate, empower, and engage on June 19th and throughout the year, leveraging this impactful and historical moment to elevate our shared communities collectively. This is not just a call to action but an opportunity for personal growth and learning as we deepen our understanding of our shared history and work towards a more inclusive future.
