View profile for Ariel Kovlakas, CMP

Sr. Event Operations Manager | Shoptalk & Groceryshop

Here's what made Shoptalk Spring 2025 truly special for me: 1) Logo Lounge - We maxed out on a 30' ceiling to create this photo moment, each letter 12' tall and complete with a motorized, rotating disco ball. So proud to see it on every LinkedIn post from the event. I think this has got to be the most photographed thing ever at a Shoptalk show... fun tidbit to me: we had to make announcements during build asking people to stop sharing it before show open. Thank you Sophie Wawro for the vision & for pushing us to make it happen! 2) Overall Show Design - We approached experiential design differently than ever before, working with the geniuses at Sun Effects Oy for design and partnering out on build with Freeman Company, Sightline Productions, Five Inc, + other direct sourcing. It was honestly both incredibly challenging and incredibly enriching. And that much more rewarding to see the results: Mandalay Bay's foyers actually transformed with disco balls, haze, lasers and refracted light, our vast catering spaces overhauled for the first time at scale on our flagship event (shout-out Ashley Perrucci), and a simple but (literally) elevated 'Gold Bar' lounge concept that was well-executed all around. 3) Meetup - This behemoth of a program only keeps growing. I'm always incredulous about how well this concept works at scale, but this year, we had the smoothest set-up and execution since launching it at Shoptalk 2023. Via testimony from A/V partners, brand ambassadors, and attendees alike, it was eye-opening to see the domino affect that was everyone's improved experience. 4) The incredible Operations team as always. Lead by Usha James-Banfield, CMP who managed us all while directly owning the operational launch of The New Market, and surprising us with such a thoughtful team celebration. And Karen Puddy, who lives day in & out with such care for both the excellence of the show AND us as people. Photos here are largely by Ulysses & Crew!

  • Introducing Jay! Todays employee Spotlight bring us Jay Seawell. Hailing from Greensboro North Carolina and embodying the Sightline brand in everything he does, Jay is an incredible asset on the team. His leadership and problem solving skills are crucial for us. Here's what he had to say: SL: What is your job title: Jay: I'm the Director of Operations for our North Carolina Location SL: What does that mean? IE what do you do everyday? Jay: I take the projects and oversee the fine details that bring them to fruition behind-the scenes. SL: Why do you work at Sightline? Jay: I love putting my tech skills to work- every day is a new experience. SL: Where can we find you on a Saturday morning? Jay: When it's in town, the Renaissance Festival! SL: What's the wildest thing you have seen onsite? Jay: Somehow, we've put on shows despite the weather outside sometimes... We've been in Miami and New Orleans around hurricanes, Charleston during flooding. The show must go on! There you have it! Thanks Jay! Looking forward to weathering more storms with you on board! ;)

  • Virtual Rehearsals! Let’s dive into the world of rehearsals... Tech rehearsals can often be a major time drain when onsite, with hours spent crafting lighting cues, tweaking the Run of Show document, or ensuring that pre-produced videos run flawlessly. Recently, Sightline transformed this process by introducing a Virtual Rehearsal option for our clients. Instead of handling everything onsite, we invite our clients to our shop for a comprehensive virtual rehearsal using our @vectorworks CAD drawings and @unrealengine. We even give our clients a video game controller so they can "walk" through the room themselves! This gives our team the opportunity to fine-tune all the tech well before the talent hits the ballroom for their rehearsal. We’re incredibly proud of this innovative project and can’t wait to bring more events to life just like this! • Meet the Team! Please welcome to the stage Nick Caywood! Nick joined Sightline in 2022 and also resides in North Carolina (Just like Mike!) SL: What is your job title? Nick: Project Manager SL: What do you do? Nick: As a Project Manager, I book contract labor and manage travel logistics, coordinate subrental equipment, and handle delivery and pickup logistics with the Warehouse Manager. I ensure effective communication with the Warehouse Manager and Technical Director for seamless onsite execution. Additionally, I manage budgets by resolving purchase order discrepancies, attract new subcontract labor, and source local and national equipment resources to support successful event operations. SL: Why do you work at Sightline? Nick: I work at Sightline because of the incredible people I collaborate with every day. My team inspires me and helps me grow, and I genuinely learn something new from them all the time. It’s a supportive environment that fuels my passion and keeps me engaged. SL: Where can we find you on a Saturday morning? Nick: On a Saturday morning, you’ll find me at home, savoring a warm cup of coffee and listening to a record in my living room. It’s my favorite time to relax and recharge. SL: What is the wildest thing you have ever seen onsite? Nick: The wildest thing I’ve ever witnessed onsite occurred during a job in Egypt when the entire local crew showed up in flip flops. Amazing. You gotta be comfortable! Thanks Nick! we love having you on the team, keep up the excellent work! hopefully we can get you back to Egypt one of these days! photo: @laurenbphotog #team #eventprofs #eventproductionservices #culture #events

  • Meet the Team! Introducing, Mike Mincello - Technical Producer. Mike joined the Sightline team in 2022 and resides in beautiful North Carolina. We had the chance to sit down with him for a quick Q&A session. Here is what he had to say. SL: What is your job title? Mike: Technical Producer. SL: What do you do? or... what does that mean? Mike:I help bring the clients vision to life. Whether it is spec'ing in the right product or conceptualizing a stage design that fits their theme, I'm with them every step of the way. Not only do I help visualize and lead our team of talented individuals I also keep communication flowing so everyone is aware of what's happening. SL: Why do you work at Sightline? Mike: Sightline is a breath of fresh air. Our innovative approach to production presents an opportunity to be part of something new, while focusing on what's best for our clients. Some companies get stuck in a rinse and repeat cycle while Sightline is always learning, always moving the needle. I chose to work for Sightline because the team has a unified vision of being the best. We believe in our client's goals and our people. SL: Where can we find you on a Saturday Morning? Mike: If I'm not on the soccer/baseball field with my family, then I'm either drinking coffee in my PJ's or playing video games with the kids! Saturdays are often busier than the work week, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. SL: What is the wildest thing you have ever seen onsite? Mike: A bride and groom riding on an elephant near the hotel entrance. That was pretty wild. There you have it folks! Big thanks to Mike for spending the time with us. We love having him on the team, his positive atttitude and attention to detail are a welcome addition! Photo: @laurenbphotog #team #eventprofs #eventproductionservices #culture #events

  • Incoming!! Sightline is pleased to announce that we have purchased 8 BORIS systems from our good buddies at VHC. BORIS (short for Breakout Room Integration System) is a quick and easily deployable breakout room solution. Everything you need for a small breakout session on one rolling cart. (Screen, Projector, Speakers, Mixer, Mics, Flipchart, Table etc...). Everything rolls in (Carts fit through a standard door BTW) and the cart becomes the stand for the screen. 👏👏👏 This system allows Sightline to deploy multiple breakout rooms in a fraction of the time! Give us a call for pricing and more information! #eventprof #eventproduction #breakoutroom #efficiency #systems #sightlineproductions
