About us

The Society for International Development, United States of America Chapter (SID United States or SID-US) is a leading global development membership organization that provides a space for dialogue and bridges a dynamic community of individuals and institutions working in international development. Connecting a diverse global forum of international development practitioners, SID-US serves as a knowledge broker for ideas and best practices. The Society for International Development (SID), founded in Washington, DC in 1957, is a global forum of individuals and institutions concerned with sustainable economic, social and political development. Today, SID has over 3,000 members in 125 countries and over 65 local chapters worldwide. It works with more than 100 associations, networks, and institutions involving parliamentarians, academics, students, political leaders, and development experts, both at local and international levels. This makes SID one of the very few organizations with a holistic, multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral approach to development. SID-US is the most active chapter worldwide and is known as the flagship of the organization.

  • "Development isn’t charity—it’s strategic investment in stability and growth." Ahead of the #WBGSpringMeetings, World Bank President Ajay Banga’s FT op-ed makes the case for development that delivers jobs, opportunity, and security by enabling dynamic private sectors—not aid dependency. Key takeaways: ✅ Jobs as priority: They reduce fragility, migration, and build self-sufficient economies. ✅ Private capital follows conditions: Strong infrastructure + smart reforms unlock investment. ✅ World Bank’s role: From financing infrastructure (e.g., #Mission300 in Africa) to de-risking private sector growth via @IFC_org & @MIGA. With 80 years of multiplying impact (29B→ 29B→1.5TN), the Bank proves development is how we compete and secure our shared future. Read & share: https://bit.ly/42w6Kfq #GlobalDev #Sustainability

  • 📸PHOTOS: Check out the photos from last week's Annual Membership Meeting, which gathered 250+ members from across the sector, online and in-person, for chapter updates and a timely discussion on the future of international development and humanitarian assistance. ➡️https://lnkd.in/evZJQN9v We are grateful to our panelists: Benedict David (Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Embassy of Australia, United States of America); William Davis (UN in Washington); and Nathaniel Heller (Geneva Global) for sharing their insights on the changing donor landscape. And thank you to this year's sponsor: Accenture! We hope to continue the momentum of these conversations as we pivot our programming according to the needs of the community.
