📢 URGENT: CALL HOUSE LEADERSHIP TODAY! 📢 The Ohio House's budget keeps foodbank funding at $24.5M per year which is $7.5M less than the current budget. This shortfall threatens food access for hundreds of thousands of Ohioans and weakens support for Ohio farmers and local jobs. We must act now to ensure foodbanks can continue feeding families. Call House leadership, Finance Chair Stewart, and Finance Vice Chair Dovilla today using the drop-down in our action alert and urge them to include $4.93M more, investing a total of $29.48M per year into the Ohio Food Program and Agricultural Clearance Program to account for 5 years of record inflation. Hungry Ohioans deserve reliable, adequately funded services, but foodbanks and pantries cannot do it alone, we need the state's support. Take action now! We have drafted a script and provided the phone numbers as well as an email you can send. Every call makes a difference, please make your voice heard. Logan County Empty Bowls Update After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel our upcoming Empty Bowls fundraiser in Logan County. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we were unable to secure the full participation we had hoped for with the soup crawl. We truly appreciate everyone who expressed interest and support, especially The Flying Pepper Cantina as they were going to be our homebase for the event. We look forward to reimagining this event in the future. We hope you are still able to support Second Harvest at our Champaign County Empty Bowls Soup Crawl as an opportunity to come together for a great cause! Champaign County’s Empty Bowls event will take place tomorrow (Wednesday, April 2) from 5:00 – 8:00pm starting at the Farmer’s Daughter. This is where you are able to purchase your bowls and pick up your tickets to the crawl at the following locations: - The Farmer’s Daughter serving Broccoli Cheddar Soup - Abuela’s Kitchen serving Venezuelan Soup - Café Paradiso serving Tomato Soup - In Good Taste serving Loaded Potato Soup - Mercy Health Urbana serving White Chicken Lasagna Soup - The WhereHouse serving a variety of desserts and pastries

T minus-2 hours to Clark County Empty Bowls Fundraiser! 🥣 A huge thank you to our presenting sponsor, Kroger! Their generous support goes beyond today's event—they've donated almost 100,000 pounds of food in 2024 alone. Their incredible donation helps us provide more than 200,000 pounds of food to our neighbors in need. We truly appreciate all that you do for us and the community! 💙

🚨 URGENT UPDATE: Major Federal Food Shipment Cancelled As feared, we received confirmation late yesterday that a critical shipment of Federally funded food destined for Second Harvest Food Bank—originally scheduled for delivery between May and August—has been cancelled. This news comes at a devastating time: summer is fast approaching, when children lose access to free or reduced school meals, and uncertainty remains around the future of subsidized food programs like Summer Feeding. The cancelled orders included essential items like: Chicken Pork Milk Eggs Cereal Turkey breast ...and more. Combined with the permanent cancellation of the LFPA program after June 2025, the immediate impact to Second Harvest Food Bank is staggering: » $453,867 in food value lost » 378,222 fewer meals available for families across our region. Nearly an entire month's worth of food to feed our neighbors. These are only the cuts we know about right now—and we are concerned there could be more. This is unacceptable. Now more than ever, we need your voice in the fight against food insecurity. Contact your local representatives and urge them to take action: 📞 Jim Jordan 202-225-2676 📞 Mike Turner 202-225-6465 📞 Mike Carey 614-927-6902 or 202-225-2015 📞 Jon Hustead 202-224-3353 📞 Bernie Moreno 202-224-2315 Your advocacy matters. Your voice carries weight. Together, we can make sure no family is left behind. Let’s turn this setback into a rallying call for support, change, and community strength. Stay connected. Stay engaged. Stay hopeful. We are in this together—and we are not giving up. #EndHunger #FoodInsecurity #AdvocacyMatters #SecondHarvestFightsBack

We know rising food costs are affecting both individuals and businesses, especially the cost of eggs as we approach the Easter holiday. 🥚 🐣 We are thankful for organizations like Young's Jersey Dairy for choosing to support their community during these challenging financial times. Instead of following their decades-long tradition of hard boiling eggs for their Easter Egg Hunt, they will be purchasing plastic eggs and donating difference to Second Harvest and The Foodbank, Inc.! We are grateful for your generosity and community stewardship! ❤️🤝 https://lnkd.in/eCtZPvJR

As a proud member of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks and the Feeding America network, Second Harvest Food Bank is closely monitoring recent developments in federal funding that impact hunger relief across our state. This week, our partners at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank received news that more than half a million pounds of food—scheduled for delivery through The Emergency Food Assistance Program—were quietly canceled by the USDA. These cuts come on the heels of the elimination of the Local Food Purchase Assistance program earlier this month, compounding an already urgent situation for families in need. Second Harvest, along with the 11 other food banks in Ohio, is deeply concerned about the long-term effects these funding reductions will have on the individuals and families we serve across Clark, Champaign, and Logan Counties. We’re calling on our community to join us in responding to these challenges. You can make a difference by: - Volunteering your time - Hosting a food or fund drive - Donating funds to support local hunger relief - Sharing our mission and updates - Contacting your elected officials to advocate for continued investment in programs that fight hunger and support Ohio’s most vulnerable residents These programs do more than provide meals—they also strengthen local agriculture and stabilize communities in times of crisis. Ohio has a long-standing tradition of stepping up when it matters most. That time is now. https://lnkd.in/e3mcBjGz #HungerRelief #OhioAssociationOfFoodbanks #FeedingAmerica #SecondHarvest #FoodInsecurity #CommunitySupport #Advocacy
