It’s always a great day when I get to spend time with Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) employees and learning how they keep the system running. Today, I joined Chief Engineer Kate O'Connor to see our Communications & Signals team installing new signal houses and the Bridges & Buildings team renovating our stations including adding another fully accessible station. We also had a chance to see our oldest tower location built ca. 1950 but still operational today thanks to our talented maintenance staff.

The existing Automatic Train Control (ATC) system in service on the Market- Frankford Subway Elevated (MFSE) is approaching its end of life and SEPTA is planning for its replacement. The current ATC system was completed in 2003 as part of a major upgrade of the MFSE that included extensive improvements to the elevated structure. This project aims to replace the current ATC system. Some areas of this procurement include but are not limited to: Replacement of the Existing Train Control System, Track Work, Train Control Communications System, Train Control System Facilities, and Rail Operations Control Center. ✨ SEPTA cordially invites contractors and vendors to an outreach forum on Wednesday, March 19 from 2PM-3PM at SEPTA Headquarters (1234 Market St) in preparation for the upcoming procurement opportunity related to the MFSE ATC Replacement Project. SEPTA will provide preliminary details about the project and the procurement process. This meeting offers an informal opportunity for questions. ✨ More info here: https://lnkd.in/eEp33XAf #ISEPTAPHILLY #HowWeRoll #procurement

Today #SEPTA launched a new initiative to add designated stroller areas to select buses/routes serving the City of Philadelphia. The effort is designed to make travel on SEPTA more accommodating to families. “We know that it can be difficult for customers with young children to find adequate space on-board buses and it is a challenge for our dedicated operators to manage this while they are providing service,” said SEPTA Interim General Manager Scott Sauer. “It was important for us to get input from our customers about how they navigate these spaces and our from our operators who need to be able to ensure we are maintaining safety and accessibility for everyone. The Stroller Spot initiative was designed with this critical feedback and we are eager to hear more from them about how it is working.” For those who rely on #publictransportation having a young child in the house increases women’s trips by 23% as women are three times more likely than men to take children to school and 80% more likely to trip chain or engage in multi-purpose and multi-stop trips on their journey to/from work. This is one of the reasons why SEPTA moved to free transfers on transit in 2020 and why we're modernizing our trolleys so that they are not only ADA accessible but also stroller-friendly. Buses with a stroller area will be marked with a special decal on the bus exterior above the boarding door. The space inside is also identified with blue signage. More information including a demonstration video about SEPTA’s stroller policy is available here: https://lnkd.in/e8xAUTHi #ISEPTAPHILLY #HowWeRoll #WorkingMomsDay

Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) Transit Police & Philadelphia Police Department: A Partnership for Public Safety Public safety is at the heart of SEPTA’s mission, and our Transit Police officers play a critical role in keeping our riders and communities safe. Their dedication and keen attention to detail were on full display on February 26, when two SEPTA Transit Police officers on routine patrol recognized a suspect wanted for homicide. Thanks to their vigilance and swift action, they were able to confirm the warrant and coordinate with the Philadelphia Police Department, leading to the suspect’s arrest. This is a powerful example of the collaboration, expertise, and commitment that define our SEPTA Transit Police force. We are grateful for their service and for the strong partnership with Philadelphia Police—working together to make our transit system and the city safer. https://lnkd.in/g8qmX-n5 #SEPTA #SEPTATransitPolice #PublicSafety #PhiladelphiaPolice
