As of April 4, China has imposed new controls on exports of key medium and heavy rare earth elements to the United States, including: 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘂𝗺, 𝗚𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘂𝗺, 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗶𝘂𝗺, 𝗗𝘆𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺, 𝗟𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘂𝗺, 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘂𝗺. These rare earths are vital to U.S. defense systems—from guided missiles and stealth technology to radar, satellites, and secure communications. In addition to these controls, China has: • Added 16 U.S. entities to its export control list • Expanded its “unreliable entity” list with 11 more organizations, enabling punitive measures 👉 While the administration has rightfully thrown everything at this challenge, these new export restrictions can serve as a strategic lens—helping policymakers focus on the most acute supply chain vulnerabilities and prioritize shorter-term, high-impact actions. The image below highlights how these rare earths are used in U.S. national security platforms and technologies. 🔍 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲. #RareEarths #NationalSecurity #DefenseTech #SupplyChainSecurity #CriticalMinerals #Geopolitics #Innovation #USDefense #China
