This Summer, I spent an incredible three months working at the South Street Seaport Museum as a Collections and Exhibitions Management Intern. My relationship with the Seaport Museum began two years ago when I started volunteering on its weekly ship restoration projects. The community of museum professionals and maritime enthusiasts I experienced during that time showed me the value of museums as a point of contact between people and history. Now, I am so grateful for the opportunity to have learned about the intricacies of exhibition planning and collections care directly from their collections and exhibitions team. The support I received from Martina Caruso, as well as Carley Roche and Elena Abou Mrad, made me even more excited to start the process of applying to graduate school with an intent to enter the museum field. If any of you find yourselves in Lower Manhattan, I highly recommend paying a visit to the Seaport Museum for a vivid slice of New York's maritime history. In the meantime, you can check out almost 5,000 objects featured on their new Collections Online Portal.
