💙 This Earth Day, let’s expand our perspective. Yes, land-based ecosystems are precious. But what about the #oceanfloor? 🌎 It’s time our planetary thinking included the vast underwater landscapes hidden from view - from biodiverse seamounts to pristine abyssal plains and ancient hydrothermal vents. At Seabed 2030, we’re guided by the principle that you can't protect what you don’t understand. And you can’t understand what hasn't been mapped. Our mission isn’t just about filling blank spaces on charts. It’s about revealing the foundation of Earth's interconnected systems, helping us understand how they work together - from mountaintops to deep-sea trenches. ➡️ Join us: https://lnkd.in/e_PKsPDy #EarthDay #OceanMapping #Hydrospatial

A global initiative relentless in our pursuit of achieving a complete map of the ocean floor by 2030.
About us
The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 Project is a pioneering initiative accelerating ocean mapping efforts. We are a global community working with partners across industry, governments, research, philanthropy, NGOs, and civil society to achieve a complete map of the entire seabed by 2030. Seabed 2030 is a flagship programme of the United Nation’s Ocean Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).

🎉 A huge congratulations to Brian Calder of the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping / NOAA-UNH Joint Hydrographic Center on being elected to the 2025 Hydrographer Hall of Fame - a prestigious award bestowed every two years to individuals who have made significant advancements in the science of hydrographic surveying and demonstrated exemplary service to the field. Brian joins fellow inductees including Seabed 2030 Co-Head of the Arctic and North Pacific Center, Larry Mayer, who praised Brian's blend of theoretical insight and practical innovation. 💡 From pioneering the CUBE algorithm to developing crowd-sourced mapping tools now used around the world, Brian's work has transformed how the hydrographic community processes and shares bathymetric data. We're grateful for his contributions, and proud to celebrate this well-deserved honour! Read more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e-wzp74r #Hydrospatial #BathymetricCharts #SeabedMapping

🐠 The lives and livelihoods of Pacific Islanders are intrinsically linked to the sea. 🌊 As ocean conditions continue to change, mapping the seafloor in the Pacific is more important than ever - supporting regional priorities in ocean stewardship, climate resilience and sustainable development. Our Pacific Ocean Mapping Meeting served as a key platform for regional collaboration and knowledge exchange. Through events like this, Seabed 2030 partners, Pacific nations, and industry stakeholders come together to share expertise, exchange tools and technologies, and work in partnership to support sustainable ocean management for future generations. #PacificIslands #SustainableDevelopment #Hydrospatial #SeabedMapping

🔎 More data = more knowledge The latest release of the EMODnet Bathymetry digital terrain model (DTM) features a further 126 high-quality datasets, combining data from acoustic surveys, airborne bathymetric Lidar, and satellite-derived bathymetry. But this isn’t just about numbers. It’s about expanding access and sharing knowledge. 💡 Every data point helps refine our understanding and supports better decision-making - whether for marine conservation, offshore energy infrastructure or broader ocean management. As the most detailed publicly available bathymetry model for European waters, EMODnet’s DTM is a vital resource for both regional and global stakeholders, strengthening our collective understanding of the seafloor. 📍 Final day at #OceanBusiness 2025! 🚢 The dockside welcomed a new arrival today: one of Ocean Infinity’s fleet of motherships for drone survey vessels. Inside, we explored hands-free tech designed to support offshore teams, connected with Seabed 2030 partners, and shared how ocean mapping helps shape policy and law during the Ocean Careers session. Huge thanks to the organisers and everyone who dropped by our stand this week. Until next time! #OceanMapping #Hydrospatial #BlueEconomy #OceanInnovation
