🎙️ We interviewed Navy Mckee, the CEO and Founder of Kai Pono Solutions, on her founder journey. Kai Pono is a startup focused on safeguarding waterways by preventing pollutants from entering through storm drains. Kai Pono’s innovative filtration systems are capable of capturing a variety of toxins, chemicals, and solid waste. With a low-cost, easy-to-maintain design, their flagship model integrates seamlessly into municipal infrastructure. 📝 Like all great ideas, Kai Pono's concept originated 25 years ago on a piece of scrap paper. As part of SeaAhead's latest BlueSwell Program cohort, Kai Pono received support and guidance to accelerate its growth and make strategic connections on the East Coast. Navy's strategic vision includes positioning Kai Pono as a leader in the stormwater space. The team is currently fundraising. 🌊 We just released our recap article on Demo Day 2025! For the first time, all graduating startups brought physical demos, and the hands-on experience provided attendees with a deeper understanding of the technologies developed by Cohort V. See some of the demos in the photos attached! Our guest speaker, Undersecretary of Economic Foundations at the Executive Office of Economic Development, Ashley Stolba, reminded the audience of Massachusetts’ steadfast commitment to innovation. In November, the Healey Administration signed the MassLeads Act which, among other points, will invest $1 billion in climatetech through the Economic Development Bond Bill and will support the blue economy founders and entrepreneurs. There’s excitement in this space and ample reason to get involved. We are proud to run the BlueSwell Program, as we have for the last 5 cohorts, in partnership with the New England Aquarium and help these startups make significant strides in the bluetech sector. 🎉🎉 SeaAhead has received funding from the Sector Spark grant to jumpstart and launch our new program! The in-water piloting accelerator program will help startups navigate commercialization barriers by providing easy access to test sites that will validate their technologies. The program also features ample technical support and mentorship throughout the journey. Why are we launching this program? We know that proof-of-concept testing is essential for investment and is encumbered by several barriers. We will navigate those barriers for startups so they can purely focus on testing their technology. Thank you to the The Healey-Driscoll administration and the Innovation Institute at Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. Read the announcement: https://lnkd.in/ejyFUrRD

🎉 🎊 BIG celebrations are in order! On Thursday, March 6th, SeaAhead and the New England Aquarium hosted our fifth BlueSwell Demo Day to honor the seven startups that participated in Cohort V. We were proud to welcome Ashley Stolba, the Undersecretary of Economic Foundations at the Executive Office of Economic Development, as our Guest Speaker. She gave a passionate welcome to our community and showed her commitment to driving Massachusetts forward as an innovation stronghold. We also heard remarks from Letise LaFeir, PhD, Chief of Conservation and Stewardship at the Aquarium who underlined how crucial novel technologies are to conservation efforts. Our very own Alissa Peterson, CEO and co-founder of SeaAhead, made it clear that supporting and investing in groundbreaking blue innovation is the key to a bright blue future for all. If you follow the BlueSwell Program, you know that Demo Day is the capstone event for our cohort members where they pitch directly to our community of investors and partners. They spent the last five months working hard to drive their respective commercialization journeys forward. Please join us in congratulating Cohort V and applauding all of their accomplishments. Keep watch with us as these startups continue to change the game!
