  • Riverside Community Hospital has completed the first concomitant procedure in the Inland Empire involving both atrial fibrillation ablation as well as left atrial appendage occlusion. “Performing both procedures at one time is better for the patient’s recovery and experience,” said Dr. Adnan Raza, cardiologist at Riverside Community Hospital and the first surgeon in the Inland Empire to perform the atrial fibrillation ablation and left atrial appendage occlusion at the same time. “Performing procedures like this together also allows us to free up Cath Labs and staff so we can help more people who need our expert care." • Riverside Community Hospital has been identified as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals® according to an independent quality analysis provided by Premier, Inc., in the category of Major Teaching Hospitals. Only four California hospitals made the list of one hundred and Riverside Community Hospital is one of two California hospitals in the Major Teaching Hospitals category. This distinction highlights our commitment to training the physicians of tomorrow through our robust Graduate Medical Education programs. Through expert faculty, state-of-art training equipment, and matching with some of the brightest new physicians year after year, we are proud of our impact to medicine in this community. These outcomes add up to meaningful differences. According to the study’s analysis, if all hospitals operated at the level of this year’s top performers, more than 331,000 additional lives could have been saved, over 611,000 additional patients could have been complication-free and more than $15.1 billion in inpatient costs could have been saved for the 2025 study year. This analysis is based on Medicare patients included in this study. If the same standards were applied to all inpatients, the impact could have been even greater. The 100 Top Hospitals® program aims to inspire hospital and health system leaders to strive for higher performance and provide added value to the communities they serve. These measurements transparently help health system leaders compare their performance to that of their competitors by using objective, reliable and significant indicators of operational excellence. • It's #DonateLifeMonth and, this morning, Riverside Community Hospital hosted a special flag raising ceremony, in partnership with OneLegacy, to honor those who have given the ultimate gift of life by being organ and tissue donors. The collective raising of Donate Life flags represent a visible and unified affirmation that ‘Donation Saves Lives’ and inspires people to register their decisions to donate. 104,619 people are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant. Thirteen people die each day waiting for an organ transplant and every eight minutes, another person is added to the transplant waiting list. One organ donor can save up to eight lives through organ donation and enhance the lives of over 75 people through tissue donation. Speakers at the ceremony included Peter Hemstead, our CEO, LuCyndi Ramirez, senior vice president of external partnerships, OneLegacy, and Nicole Heimerl, OneLegacy ambassador. Nicole shared how her son, Austin Garrett Nicely, passed away in 2014 in a motorcycle accident. The family strongly believes in the power of organ donation and knew Austin would want to give the gift of life to others. Austin’s pancreas, liver and both kidneys were transplanted and his tissue helped 173 people across the nation. Local Emergency Medical Services partners joined the ceremony in support of organ donation including AMR, Primary Ambulance, Advantage Ambulance and the City of Riverside Fire Department. Thank you for the Fire Department for raising the flag. The Donate Life Flag will fly the entire month of April to honor organ and tissue donors and their families. #donationsaveslives OneLegacy

  • Congratulations, Rhoyd L, RN on SICU, for earning the ICARE Champion Award for Accountability! A colleague wrote, “Over the weekend, we had a several stroke, STEMI and OR ICU patients. Both days we were faced with throughput barriers. At the beginning of day shift, neither MICU or SICU had any downgrades, and all the physical beds on the Med Surg and Telemetry were full. This presented a challenge as there were multiple code FASTs being called back-to-back. Rhoyd jumped into high gear and immediately and admitted the first code FAST. We then coordinated bed movement on SICU in anticipation of receiving other NIR, Cath Lab, and OR patient who urgently needed beds. Rhoyd reached out to the intensivist and other SICU nurses to identify downgrades and potential downgrades. He helped facilitate safe and quick transfers of downgrades once they were identified and assigned a bed. Rhoyd offered input and formulated plans. He was proactive and collaborative. Through all of his actions, you could see that Rhoyd was putting the patient first and was an exemplary example of our mission statement. Not only did Rhoyd take steps to move patients, but he also was able to make the appropriate calls to staff and leadership to cover the staffing needs of the department which was essential in making sure we were able to keep beds open. He was a rock star! I was so happy for everything that Rhoyd did! He was amazing!”\ #icare #livingourvalues

  • This morning, Riverside Community Hospital unveiled a motorcycle memorial parking spot in honor of Riverside County Sheriff Deputy Timothy Corlew, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on January 8, 2025. To honor his memory, the Emergency Room team dedicated a memorial parking spot where he always parked his motorcycle while on hospital property. Deputy Corlew’s wife, Mercedes, and their children, joined Riverside Community Hospital for the unveiling along with Riverside County Sheriff deputies and representatives from AMR. Riverside Community Hospital also provided a duplicate memorial parking sign to the Riverside County Sheriff Jurupa Valley Station to honor Deputy Corlew.
