We’re Also, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Said another way, Also is a new set of solutions to a common set of challenges around transportation. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride also—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

NEW: Rivian is spinning out its e-bike/micromobility skunkworks project into a new company called Also, with $105 million in funding from Eclipse (spearheaded by former exec Jiten Behl). Also will be led by Chris Yu who has been running the skunkworks team for the last few years after coming to Rivian from Specialized Bicycle Components. The first product sounds awfully e-bikey, although the new company is waiting until later this year to show off the first designs. The plan is to make things "south of a car" in multiple form factors leaning on Rivian's tech, supply chain, and retail presence, starting in US/Europe but expanding globally. RJ Scaringe told us a big reason for doing this is he thinks good e-bikes are still just too expensive. Lots of car companies talk about pivoting to become "mobility providers." But Rivian seems like it's about to actually do it. Meet Also., a new startup spinning out of the nascent EV brand that's going to focus on electrified two-wheel, three-wheel and four-wheel transportation. "Right place, right timing," Chris Yu of Also told me. "Micromobility and small EVs are kind of following cars and technology adoption. But you can imagine a really diverse set of opportunities and use cases down the road, and there's such a huge opportunity and such a big problem to solve."
