Resounding Joy is a nonprofit that enhances the human experience through the therapeutic use of music.
About us
Resounding Joy was founded in 2004 out of the desire to bridge the gap in accessibility of music therapy services. Recognizing that many individuals lacked the means to access these services through for-profit entities, the nonprofit was established to fill this void. Its mission is to bring the healing power of music therapy to individuals and groups across San Diego and beyond. The driving force behind this endeavor for the past 20 years has been Barbara Reuer, internationally known for her expertise in music-centered wellness and music therapy. The organization has connected the healing power of music therapy to more than 171,000 individuals and groups throughout the San Diego community for the past two decades. Our team of board-certified music therapists consistently demonstrates the profound impact music can have on physical, emotional and social well-being. Kerri Fox joined the organization in November 2023 as Executive Director and CEO.

Resounding Joy is proud to partner with the San Diego Regional Center in honoring Autism Awareness Month and supporting individuals with autism through music therapy.
April is World Autism Month, also known as Autism Acceptance Month! 🌈♾️ This month is dedicated to celebrating the experiences of individuals with autism and promoting inclusion, moving beyond awareness to acceptance. 59% of the individuals we serve at SDRC are diagnosed with autism, and we’re proud to support them every day. Show your support: ✔️ Wear blue, the rainbow, or gold! Blue represents autism awareness, and the rainbow or gold ("Au" on the periodic table) infinity symbol celebrates the diversity of the autism spectrum or neurodiversity. ✔️ Support businesses owned by individuals on the spectrum. ✔️ Learn & engage! This year’s theme is: Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ✔️ Talk about autism and neurodiversity with people beyond the disability community. Let’s light the way this April and beyond for a more inclusive world!

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month! We’re proud to recognize Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and highlight our partnership with The Arc of San Diego, supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through this collaboration, Resounding Joy provides group music therapy in classrooms and outdoor settings to children in Carlsbad, North Park, and Chula Vista—and soon expanding to additional areas! Music therapy supports communication, connection, and development, and we’re honored to be part of these children’s growth.

We were honored last week to receive a generous grant from the Kiwanis Club of La Jolla to help fund our Sounds of Service program for veterans at La Jolla Hospital’s VA SAARTP program. This vital initiative wouldn’t be possible without the support of organizations like Kiwanis. The Kiwanis Club of La Jolla works tirelessly to raise funds through community events, ensuring local nonprofits can continue making a meaningful impact. We are deeply grateful for their dedication to giving back and for helping us bring the healing power of music to those who need it most!
