These disparities demand action, not retreat -- but in many cases, non-profits nationwide are experiencing this withdraw in support. Despite the clear need, we are witnessing a troubling shift. Grants and funding opportunities once earmarked for addressing racial and gender inequities are disappearing. DEI programs are being defunded. The progress we’ve fought for is at risk of being rolled back. This is why our upcoming Equity for Black Women and Girls Fundraiser Cocktail Hour is not just an event—it is a lifeline. Without proper funding, these essential programs are at risk of being scaled back or eliminated. At RCF Connects, we are beyond proud to celebrate Armond Corshawn Lee, our Senior Director of Restoring Neighborhoods, for being honored with the Julie Wright Changemaker Award! This prestigious recognition is awarded to courageous, equity-focused education advocates who are driving real change in West Contra Costa—and there is no one more deserving than Armond. His dedication to community transformation is evident in every aspect of his work and personal life. As Senior Director of Restoring Neighborhoods at RCF Connects, Armond leads critical initiatives that improve the lives of countless residents. His work includes securing housing for the unhoused, engaging youth in opportunities that foster growth and success, overseeing an electric vehicle car-sharing program to ensure reliable mobility for community members, and revitalizing neighborhoods by refurbishing blighted homes to create more options for first-time home buyers and strengthen local communities. As we kick off 2025—our 25th Anniversary year!—we’re especially adamant about honoring Black History Month, given the current backlash on education and the recognition of demographically specific groups. This month, and every month, we uplift and amplify the voices and stories of Black leaders, trailblazers, and community members who have shaped Richmond, CA, and Contra Costa County. We’re committed to creating spaces where all communities can thrive, share power, and reach their full potential. This year, interspersed throughout our Black History postings we will also share profiles from our amazing women entrepreneurs of Equity for Black Women and Girls' Sisters SOAR program.
