Methane gas is currently one of the biggest threats to our climate, and the U.S. Gulf South is Ground Zero for the buildout of methane gas export terminals. We oppose any effort to expand methane gas production and urge investors to steer clear of any company who is doing so. #NoLNG #DefundClimateChaos

A key pillar of our work over the past forty years has been supporting those at the frontline of the environmental justice and human rights movement, and creating broad coalitions of resistance, through our Community Action Grants Program. Last year, RAN distributed over $850,000 in Community Action Grants (CAG), with over 80 grants in 15 countries across five continents. These grants supported land rights in Asia, BIPOC communities in the U.S. Gulf South, Amazonian and coastal communities in Peru, Afro-descendent and Indigenous communities in Colombia, and broad alliances in Brazil. Wells Fargo has dropped its promises to cut its portfolio emissions from high-emitting sectors by 2030, and reach net-zero financed emissions by 2050. This clears the way for the bank to pour even more money into dirty fossil fuels – despite being the fifth biggest fossil fuel financier since the Paris Climate Agreement. Did you know that the Rocky Mountains are the site of five ginormous coal mines? For decades, mining company Teck has been excavating entire mountaintops in the Rockies – causing serious water pollution and declining fish populations in Ktunaxa First Nation territories and surrounding communities. The Ktunaxa people have led a decade-long effort to hold Teck Resources accountable for their destruction. As of last summer, ownership of the mines switched to Glencore, a company with a horrible climate and human rights record, and major banks have issued a EUR 500 million bond for the projects. Insured losses this century due to climate change is a staggering $600 billion. It is growing fast. The insurance crisis is a fossil fuel problem, but far too few are talking about this. Insurers, including Chubb, are still fueling oil and gas expansion, and they are leaving communities to face the resulting costs. This deep injustice does not even make economic sense – for 15 insurers, climate losses already appear to exceed fossil fuel premiums. Time’s up - we need regulation now.
