Susan B. Anthony was a key leader in the women's suffrage movement and a social reformer. Her efforts helped lead to the 1920 Nineteenth Amendment, giving women the right to vote. Believing in equality for all, she became an abolitionist and worked with the American Anti-Slavery Society. She was also known for giving powerful anti-slavery speeches, which was uncommon for women at the time. #WomensHistoryMonth #SusanBAnthony #WomenInActivism #MomsRising

Today, March 25th, we observe #EqualPayDay to raise awareness about the egregious, gender and racially discriminatory #WageGap and its impact on women, families, and the economy. On average, women are earning just 75 cents to a man's dollar! Of course, averages alone don't tell the whole story because, due to structural racism and parental discrimination, women of color and moms face much larger wage gaps when compared separately. THIS IS NOT OKAY! Raise your voice with us on #EqualPayDay and urge Congress to take action on the Paycheck Fairness Act ASAP! Take Action Here: https://lnkd.in/gcN5URAq

Julia de Burgos, the Puerto Rican poet who fearlessly delved into the complexities of womanhood, social injustice, and feminism. Not just a wordsmith, she played a key role in the women's branch of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party, blending innovation, radical politics, and a bit of personal turbulence into her short but impactful life. While she garnered some recognition during her time, it wasn't until four decades after her passing that Julia achieved legendary status. A new generation of Latinx scholars and readers rediscovered her in the 90s, especially Caribbean Afro-Latina writers who saw in her work a pioneer addressing themes like colonialism, feminism, American supremacy, colorism, poverty, and Latinx identity—long before they hit the mainstream scene. #WomensHistoryMonth #JuliaDeBurgos #WomenInActivism #MomsRising

Some of the Beacons have extensive experience while others are trying out advocacy for the first time; all of them are dedicated to working for change in their own neighborhoods and communities. "I enjoyed meeting the new leaders. I was excited to know we all have a common interest in making this country a better place for ourselves and our children."
