  • Meet Sarah Manaresi, our Premier Health Running Medicine and Performance Program Runner of the Month! She recently conquered the Dopey Challenge—a legendary four-day race series at Walt Disney World featuring a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon. That’s 48.6 miles in just four days! Why She Runs Sarah wasn’t always a runner. She started at 31 years old after having her second child, inspired by her husband’s running journey. She bought a pair of discount-store running shoes and set out on her first goal: a 5K at the Air Force Marathon Weekend. Since then, she’s kept pushing herself to new milestones. But for Sarah, running is about more than races and medals—it’s about family. Her kids are competitive runners—her oldest runs for a D2 college team, and her youngest competes for Centerville High School. “I’ll never match their speed,” Sarah says, “but I can share what I’ve learned—recovery tips, nutrition hacks, how to push through setbacks. They’ve seen my journey, and they trust the same medical team I’ve worked with. That means everything.” Setbacks and Comebacks Just four days before the 2022 Columbus Half Marathon, Sarah was sidelined by intense knee pain. An MRI from Dr. Paul Krebs at the Premier Health Running Medicine and Performance Program revealed a cyst behind her kneecap. She underwent surgery with Dr. Eric Fester at Premier Orthopedics and tackled months of rehab with Victoria Smith, DPT, and Kevin Sheehan, DPT. Less than two years later, she was back—running multiple half marathons and two full marathons, including the Dopey Challenge! Fast Facts Favorite Distance: Half Marathon Favorite Race Event: Any Disney Race Go-To Local Running Spot: Centerville Recovery Must-Have: Hyperice Normatec Compression Boots (“I take them everywhere!”) Race-Day Fuel: Science in Sport Beta Line Gels and Chews What’s Next? Sarah keeps showing up, keeps moving forward, and keeps inspiring others to do the same. Congrats, Sarah, on being our Runner of the Month! Tag a friend who inspires you to keep running! • Last fall, Premier Health’s Clinical Neuroscience Institute opened an ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) clinic, the first of its kind in Dayton, at Miami Valley Hospital South. This multidisciplinary clinic is not only focused on providing top-notch care for patients but also offering crucial support for caregivers and loved ones. The clinic aims to extend life and enhance the quality of life for ALS patients through regular care and a supportive, family-friendly environment. ALS is a progressive and devastating disease. Thanks to donor support and the vision of Adam Deardorff, MD, PhD, Director of the Neuromuscular Center at the Clinical Neuroscience Institute, ALS Clinic medical director, and fully affiliated faculty member with Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, the fight against ALS has taken another giant leap forward. https://lnkd.in/gseJcrj8

  • The Dayton Public Schools (DPS) Student Senate recently visited Miami Valley Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where they learned valuable baby care skills from occupational therapist Allison Jordan. The DPS Student Senate is made up of dedicated junior and senior student leaders selected by DPS administrators to represent their schools. These high-achieving students are given extraordinary opportunities each year to enhance their academic growth and prepare for their future in college. The “DPS Premier Health Speaker Series” is held monthly at different Premier Health or community locations and introduces the students to leaders from across our system. The speaker series inspires DPS students to explore the vast array of careers available in health care.
