    I’m not breaking any news when I say the podcast industry has evolved A LOT in the last six years — much faster than traditional forms of media seemingly ever did. That said, one thing that’s remained constant is the power of “smaller” shows (air quotes because it’s all relative of course). In reviewing Podscribe's Q4 report again over the weekend, that point stood out once again. I’m not highlighting this to say large shows don't hold a ton of appeal — clearly they’re popular for a reason and can provide a ton of value in the right circumstance, to say nothing of the efficiency in buying larger properties. But it should be a reminder to brands that taking the time to curate a list of smaller shows can produce a great deal of value, too. Much like your investment portfolio, diversification is an excellent strategy — some small, some medium and some large shows (and perhaps even some ultra large shows if your budget allows for it). I don't profess to be the preeminent authority on campaign building -- clearly there are some amazing people who build out buys on the daily -- but I'm always happy to discuss what I've seen work for anyone who's interested.

    According to Podscribe's Podcast Performance Benchmarks, host-reads drive 1.3 times more purchases per impression. Podscribe says longer ad reads also continue to deliver better performance, especially on a per-dollar basis. 60+ seconds is the recommended sweet spot. “How many other channels can really say longer ads drive better results? Not many. So we think the podcast channel is just a great place, especially for those brands that really want to tell their story,” Head of Partnerships Matthew Drengler said. The best position to place ads? The earlier, the better. Pre-roll and mid-roll serve as the most impactful and efficient per dollar.     The latest Podscribe benchmark report is out with awesome insights on podcast advertising performance. Some standouts: - Podcasts over Streaming: Podcasts drive 34% incrementality vs 17% for streaming - Don't sleep on pre and post rolls: Mid rolls convert at the highest rate, but pre only slightly less and post only 27% less so worth including at discounted CPM - RON a good complement to host-read: Run of Network conversion rates are lower, but so are CPMs, so deliver comparable CPAs - Be patient with campaigns: Only 16.7% of visits happen within 1st 24 hours of exposure - Don't rely on promo codes alone: Promo codes only account for 15% of conversions otherwise attributed via pixel
