This Sunday, PRT bus operator Michael Gerken will represent Pittsburgh Regional Transit at American Public Transportation Association's International Bus Roadeo in Austin, Texas! After securing first place in our agency’s competition last September, Michael is now taking his skills to the national stage. The International Bus Roadeo is more than just a competition—it’s an opportunity for transit professionals to showcase their expertise, connect with peers, and refine their craft. We’re proud to have Michael representing PRT and demonstrating the dedication and skill that keep our region moving. Best of luck, Michael—we’re cheering you on from Pittsburgh! 🚍👏 #PRT #publictransit #networking #competition #busroadeo

Today, our board voted to open a public comment period on proposed fare increases and service reductions, marking the next step in our ongoing effort to secure the state funding necessary to sustain public transit in our region. We’ve been keeping you updated throughout this process, and now we need your voices more than ever. Without additional state support, these changes may be unavoidable. The proposed adjustments, set to take effect in February 2026, include: ➡️ Base fare increase to $3 per ride ➡️ Elimination of the Silver Line and 41 bus routes ➡️ No service after 11 PM ➡️ Higher fares for seniors and riders with disabilities – the first increase in 12 years ➡️ Service reductions of 30 percent or more on 34 additional routes Want to make your voice heard? We encourage all riders, stakeholders, and community members to attend our upcoming public hearings to share feedback: 👉🏼 April 29 – David L. Lawrence Convention Center 👉🏼 May 6 – Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall 👉🏼 June 12 – David L. Lawrence Convention Center Sessions: 9 AM–1 PM and 3 PM–7 PM Pre-register to speak and show your support for public transit: https://lnkd.in/g7fB-jpf This is not the outcome we want, but without legislative action, we may have no choice. We will continue advocating for the funding necessary to maintain a strong, reliable transit system—and we need your help. Contact your state legislators and urge them to invest in public transit: https://lnkd.in/eK-KQ-DA We will keep you informed every step of the way. Now is the time to make your voice heard. Watch the video below for CEO Katharine Eagan Kelleman's remarks to the board before the public commend period vote. #PRT #fundingcrisis #standupfortransit #publictransit

Port Authority of Allegheny County Police took part in the Women in Public Safety Expo at the University of Pittsburgh last week. Officers Gabriella Testa and Rebecca Cappalonga talked with students and women interested in getting into law enforcement. They shared stories about the police academy, what it takes, the departments they’ve worked at, and jobs they’ve held. Both women say they wanted to become officers since they were young kids and encourage anyone – especially women – who want to get into law enforcement to take the steps to make it happen. We’re proud to have both of them on our force! #womeninpublicsafety #police #girlpower #universityofpittsburgh #PRT #publictransit

Public transit is a lifeline for Allegheny County—but without additional state funding, we are facing devastating service reductions and fare increases starting in 2026. Here’s what’s on the line: 🔴 35% service reduction 🔴 Fare increase of 25 cents 🔴 40 bus routes + the Silver Line eliminated 🔴 Major cuts to ACCESS 🔴 No service after 11 p.m. 🔴 Garage + park-and-ride closures This isn’t just about transit—it’s about access to jobs, education, healthcare, and opportunity. These cuts would impact our riders, businesses, economy, and the dedicated employees who keep our system running. PRT leadership is actively fighting for a solution to prevent these drastic changes. In the video below, CEO Katharine Eagan Kelleman shares why this funding is critical and what’s at stake for our region. We need your voices in this fight.
