  • The Rev. Dr. Charissa Howe has been a longtime fixture at the Allegheny County Jail, first as a volunteer with the Foundation of HOPE, and then as Director of Chaplaincy since 2021. However, the pulpit is calling, and Rev. Dr. Howe stepped away from her director duties at the jail on March 31. The recipient of the 2024 County Correctional Chaplain of the Year award from the Pennsylvania Prison Chaplains Association, Howe is taking over as pastor at Sixth Presbyterian Church in Squirrel Hill. “I believe that every single person in that building has great value and has a unique and special place in the world,” said Howe during the March Jail Oversight Board meeting.   • Congratulations to the 21 men who graduated from the Foundation of HOPE Pre-Release Program last week. Graduates celebrated with staff members, speaker Ken Aquiline, and professional violinist Devin Arrington. You can learn more about Arrington and how he became a fan favorite at HOPE graduations at: https://lnkd.in/eNjeU9fS The HOPE Pre-Release program is a vital part of the Allegheny County Jail’s goal to give incarcerated individuals the tools they need to improve their lives in positive ways when they are released. Participants live together on the HOPE pod and take part in 60 hours of evidence-based classes. After graduating, they can remain on the pod as group leaders and mentors, while taking graduate-level classes.
