We are honoured to have won a 2025 Bio-IT Innovative Practices Award for our FAIR Maturity Matrix and to have also received an Honourable Mention for our In Vitro Pharmacology (IVP) project in this year’s awards. These awards reflect the dedication and collaboration of all our members who have participated in our FAIR and IVP initiatives and we look forward to presenting our winning submissions and accepting the awards at the Bio-IT World Conference and Expo, April 2-4, Boston. #BioITExpo We have been awarded the Lighthouse Award for achieving an industry first with the creation of our FAIR Maturity Matrix - an easy-to-use self-assessment tool that measures organizational leadership and technical maturity. Our IVP project which has established a public-private partnership with regulators at the FDA and working collaboratively with biopharmaceutical industry stakeholders, has been highlighted as ‘one to watch’ by the judges in the years to come. The Bio-IT World Innovative Practices Awards highlight outstanding examples of technology innovation in the life sciences and are judged by a panel of expert, peer judges. The Award program recognizes partnerships and projects pushing our industry forward, promoting strategies that can be widely shared and implemented across the industry to improve the quality, pace, and reach of science. Thank you Abigail Beaney, the alliance would like to echo Thierry Escudier's comments
DCTs were heavily adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic as they allowed research to continue without the need for frequent face-to-face visits with investigators, with the added bonus that they were more environmentally friendly, but is this really the case? When you consider the number of nurse home visits, e-waste and data storage, this may not be the case, says Thierry Escudier of the Pistoia Alliance. This interview with Thierry looks into the work the alliance is doing to investigate the carbon output of DCTs. You can read more below https://lnkd.in/dBGW9GvV

This week we kicked off the Pistoia Alliance US Life Science Informatics Forum series in Boston. More than 25 people from across the Life Science community came together to openly discuss the theme of 'value creation in pharma', how pharma recognizes and prioritizes the value of projects and initiatives. Our speakers gave a variety of perspectives and examples, all of which led to great discussions amongst the attendees. Thanks to Mike Stapleton, Stephen Wing, Jake Janey, and Mark Borowsky for sharing your insights. It was truly valuable. The purpose of these meetings is to bring together a small group of people to share their thoughts on a business-critical topic in Life Science, and ideally from that, see if there is an opportunity to address the topic through a pre-competitive collaborative lens. By keeping the meetings small, we foster a tremendous amount of interaction. The event was held at EPAM Systems' Continuum site in Seaport, and a special thanks to Ted Slater for the amazing and gracious hosting. These events would not be possible without the support of our global Informatics Forum sponsors, ZS and Zifo. Thank you so much and we were very happy to have you attend and participate in the discussion! We are already in the process of getting our next forum together. If you would like information on an upcoming event, or you have thoughts on topics of interest, please feel free to reach out to me or one of my Pistoia Alliance colleagues!

🧠 What does it mean to build "human-in-the-loop" agentic systems for clinical development from day one? This was the focus of my talk last week at the Royal Society of Medicine. We often talk about automation, scalability & AI but the real challenge is in designing systems that augment expert decision-making, not replace it. In practice, this means: * Embedding clinical & operator judgement directly into closed-loop systems. * Prioritising feedback-rich interpretable AI. * Building with real-world deployment in mind from day one, not just as an afterthought. This shift is essential if we are going to transform trials from bespoke individual programs into scalable learnable systems. I'm grateful to the Pistoia Alliance & to everyone who joined the conversation. The energy in the room was a reminder: the future of clinical trials is not just about being digital. It is a truly human endeavor. #TechBio #AgenticSystems #HumanInTheLoop

✨ Reflecting on the Pistoia Alliance Conference in London! ✨ It’s been a week since I returned, but I’m still energized by the rich discussions and collaborative spirit that define this community. 💡💬 The event kicked off with insightful workshops and I had the pleasure of attending the FAIR workshop run by Giovanni Nisato at the Royal Society of Medicine - an inspiring venue to start thought-provoking conversations on FAIR & the FAIR Maturity Matrix, an easy-to-use self-assessment tool that measures organizational leadership and technical maturity. Over 20 industry experts collaborated to create the tool. The Hyve included! which won this year’s BIO-IT World Innovative Lighthouse Award! 🏆 Bio-IT World The keynotes set the stage for impactful discussions: 🧠 Brian Martin (AbbVie) emphasized the responsible development of AI in pharma, the need for human oversight and bridging technology with domain expertise to improve patient lives. 📊 Mathew Woodwark (AstraZeneca) shared how strategic standardization enables businesses to embrace data governance without constant refinement. 🌐 Markus Hartmann, PhD (Merck) provided insights into semantic data layer through reuse of existing standards, leveraging AI and the power of collaboration internally & externally. Day 2 continued the momentum: 🔬 Sophie Ollivier & Renan P. (Servier) showcased how their R&D and Data Science teams work in tandem to fuel innovation, accelerate therapies and enhance operational efficiency. 📈 Thibaut Snollaerts, PhD, MBA from Servier's presentation on centralizing data management through a semantic layer was inspiring. Unlocking data contexualization through this semantic layer is fundamental especially on your journey to gaining valuable insights from a knowledge graph. Our own Eelke van der Horst , The Hyve co-presented, demonstrating how structured, collaborative efforts fuel real progress in biotech and pharma. The conference closed on a powerful keynote with Yvonne Diaz Oncogene Cancer Research : "Patients don’t live in silos, so neither should their data and your work." A strong reminder of why we do what we do breaking barriers to drive data-driven innovation in healthcare. ❤️ Beyond the sessions, the real magic was in the connections—pharma, vendors, consultancies, and academia coming together to advance science. 🤝🚀 Grateful to be part of this incredible community! Thank you so much Pistoia Alliance for once again bringing collaboration together. I have spent the last two days attending Pistoia Alliance London conference at the Royal Society of Medicine. Great talks on automation and application of genAI on data in the industry. The second day ended with a truly inspiring talk by Yvonne Diaz, bringing the focus back on the patients. Thank you PA for the opportunity to present.
