#NetZero through EPD Automation: The 4 Million Hour Breakthrough Cementing a Net Zero Future.   Welcome to the very first edition of our #HeroesofNetZero series: Spotlighting the Trailblazers and Innovations Driving Net Zero Concrete by 2050. In this series, we’re diving into the challenges facing true Net Zero Cement and Concrete, across the value chain of sustainable construction – today, we’re focusing on Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).   The construction industry is evolving rapidly under the influence of Buy Clean policies, which prioritise sustainability in publicly funded projects. For cement and concrete producers, this means one thing: EPDs are no longer optional – they're a necessity.   But what exactly is an EPD? Think of it as the environmental equivalent of nutrition facts. Instead of calories and carbs, EPDs break down the chemicals and carbon footprint of a product, providing transparency for more sustainable construction.   Here’s the challenge: ✅ To comply with Buy Clean mandates, producers will need to generate EPDs for every batch they sell in certain regions. ✅ Traditional EPD generation methods rely heavily on manual data collection – over 40 hours per plant per EPD. ✅With demand set to quadruple by 2030, the industry could face a staggering 4 million hours of manual work per year, just to meet requirements. A monumental task - surely we can do better?   🚀 Enter Pathways. Our first Hero of NetZero. Pathways is transforming the way EPDs are generated, cutting the process from months to days by leveraging: 💻 Automatic data collection: Integrating with systems like SAP, PowerBI, and Command Alkon for seamless data ingestion. 🧠 AI-driven efficiencies: Automating life cycle assessments and publishing EPDs in real time.   By embedding EPD generation into existing workflows, Pathways is empowering producers to stay ahead of the curve, reduce costs, and remain competitive in a sustainability-driven market.   The stakes are clear: Producers without EPD capabilities risk losing out on projects.
