Consider counseling all your patients, paying particular attention to those who may be losing muscle mass (elderly, cachectic, post-covid), about importance of protein replacement to reduce muscle recovery, pain, function. I'm not talking about the obsessed body builder who wants to bulk up and overdoes it on protein supplementation (risk of renal injury, etc.). I'm asking you to think outside the box about your average active patients.

MedCentral The Pain Medicine Academy of Advanced Practice Providers was proud to have 4 of its BOD at #PainConnect25 presenting during the APP track. Training and educating APPs along with their MD colleagues leads to the best in multidisciplinary care of this complex patient population. Robin Hoyle Jeremy A. Adler, DMSc, PA-C, DFAAPA Theresa Mallick-Searle Amanda Zimmerman PA-C Zohra H. Collin Duffy, PA-C
“Pain is complex—and so is how we talk about it.” At #AAPM #PainConnect25 in Austin, Meredith Barad, clinical associate professor at Stanford Department of Medicine and course director of this year’s meeting, spoke with MedCentral about navigating pain care in a rapidly evolving landscape. She stressed the need for continued dialogue around opioids, multidisciplinary approaches, and patient-centered care in chronic pain management. https://bit.ly/426i5ml American Academy of Pain Medicine

Intranasal device may treat migraine using air. In migraine medicine we focus so much on the trigeminal ganglion, sometimes the SPG gets overlooked. https://lnkd.in/gyqtAiaP

Even though new medications have the potential to save hours of life suffering by offering amazing benefits, we still have to remember to keep educated about the data as new potential side effects appear. Everything that we recommend to our patients starts with a conversation about benefits and known risks. Caution Advised: Due to the potential link, caution is advised for patients with Raynaud's phenomenon or a history of microvascular disease when considering CGRP antagonist therapy. Further Research Needed: More data is needed to fully understand the vascular safety of CGRP-targeting drugs in patients at risk for Raynaud's phenomenon. Bedrin K, Ailani J, Dougherty C. Raynaud's phenomenon associated with calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor antagonists case report. Headache. 2022 Nov;62(10):1419-1423. Gérard, A.O., Merino, D., Van Obberghen, E.K. et al. Calcitonin gene-related peptide-targeting drugs and Raynaud’s phenomenon: a real-world potential safety signal from the WHO pharmacovigilance database. J Headache Pain 23, 53 (2022).

What an enriching weekend at the American Academy of Pain Medicine, and thankful for the opportunity to learn and educate alongside leading experts in the field as we tackled critical topics that are shaping the future of advanced practice. This weekend was even more special as we celebrated the 1-year anniversary of our Pain Medicine Academy of Advanced Practice Providers organization—a milestone that reflects the dedication and passion of everyone involved. I’m especially grateful to have shared this moment (and sporting our pins) with several of the amazing board members who continue to champion growth and innovation in our community. Here’s to continued learning, impact, and connection—excited for what’s ahead! Jeremy A.
