I will show our brand new unpublished data about how stress in different life phases (during pregnancy, prenatal, childhood, adolescence) could affect your bones 🦴 and the influence of the gut microbiome 🦠 The Physical Impact of Psychological Stress in the Musculoskeletal System Monday, February 10 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm West 301BC Organizers: John Martin, PhD, Rush University and Melanie Haffner-Luntzer, PhD, Ulm University The biopsychosocial model of disease is widely adopted but orthopedic care remains primarily biomedical (analgesics, physical therapy, surgery). It may be that the clinical and research focus on biomedical descriptors of disease has obscured the impact of psychological factors in driving disease. In this workshop, we will educate members on how psychological factors cause musculoskeletal adaptations. We will demonstrate that a holistic approach including social wellbeing, mental health, and musculoskeletal health is important for understanding musculoskeletal disease processes.
