Yesterday, Opportunity Austin joined forces with greater:SATX, Hays Caldwell Economic Development Partnership, and The Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce Inc. for the inaugural Austin–San Antonio Megaregional Meeting—a bold step toward shaping the future of one of the fastest-growing corridors in the country. The featured workforce panel called for stronger employer-led training models, earlier alignment across education and industry, and better data-sharing to meet the demands of our evolving talent pipeline. Site selectors pointed to our regional alignment, workforce depth, and ability to tackle big issues—like housing, energy, and childcare—as key advantages in a competitive national landscape. Former HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros closed the day with a call to action: this corridor is on track to exceed 8.3 million people by 2050. To keep pace, we must move beyond traditional roles and develop megaregional solutions that ensure sustainable growth. Together, we’re building a cohesive, competitive region ready to lead. OA is committed to shaping what comes next.
