Silicon Anodes is essential to next generation EV batteries, PROVIDED that the silicon anode technology is COST EFFICIENT, SCALABLE, and has IP FREEDOM TO OPERATE. Most silicon technologies are not suitable to EV batteries because they are too expensive, difficult to scale and lack sufficient IP freedom to operate. OneD Battery Sciences has invented, patented, and scaled-up (to pilot scale) the SINANODE manufacturing process, which is now being licensed to industrial partners to scale-up to >10,000 tons per year. These two slides explain how and why. First, natural graphite anode materials already produced at EV-scale by EV-qualified suppliers are processed with the SINANODE process, to add nano-silicon inside the pores. This is done inexpensively because the graphite substrate is already inexpensive today and the patented catalytic silicon growth process uses far less energy and time, and produces far less waste than competing technologies. Second, the SINANODE-enhanced graphite has three to four times higher energy storage capacity than the graphite alone, and has a very high first cycle efficiency. Also, the blending of this silicon-graphite powder with pure EV-grade graphite is easy, as slurry preparation and electrode coating process are already optimized by EV-cell makers. Finally, the SINANODE materials and processes are protected by more than 240 patents granted in USA, Europe, Korea, Japan and China, with priority filing dates that are earlier than that of competing silicon technologies. This provides OneD's industrial partners and OEM customers with the required IP Freedom to Operate. OneD's Licensing Business Model means that no large EV cell maker or OEM is relying on a start-up to get large-scale supply of SINANODE-enhanced graphite anode materials. OneD understands and respects the fact that large companies must rely on established large suppliers. Too many startups have tried and failed at scaling up to EV-quantities. OneD decided a long time ago to focus on perfecting the technology and its IP and collaborating with large partners. #evbatteries

We’re excited to share that OneD Battery Sciences partnered with Minviro to complete a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of their SINANODE® technology. This independent study, conducted under ISO-14040 and ISO-14044 standards and reviewed by an external panel, highlights SINANODE®’s potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption compared to conventional anode materials. This LCA underscores OneD’s commitment to sustainable innovation and demonstrates how science-based assessments can guide critical decisions in next-generation battery technology. #Sustainability #BatteryTech #EnergyTransition #LCA

OneD was granted today (Feb 11 2025) a new US Patent, adding to a large patent family of granted patents worldwide with earliest priority date in May 2009. This is a great example of the vision of our CTO Yimin Zhu, about 15 years ago. This invention is very broad: it covers many silicon nanoscale scaffolds and many types of carbon substrates. The set of granted claims includes many different ways to make silicon nano-structures (not limited to using silane gas as precursor but also including mixing nano-silicon and graphite flakes and other methods). The SINANODE patent portfolio (more than 240 granted patents worldwide), as well as the design of large-scale factories to produce economically and efficiently silane gas and process 20,000 T/Y of Ev-grade graphite per factory, are the unmatched foundations of OneD's IP Freedom to Operate to support licensed industrial partners and customers globally. Stay tuned for more news about our scaling up with partners. #evbatteries #silicon #nanotechnologies

Yesterday, part of the OneD Battery Sciences' team went for a hike at the Stanford University's "Dish", and took this picture in front of the radio-telescope built in 1961. The weather was great and the views of the stanford campus and Silicon Valley Bay Area were splendid. This is just 20 min by foot from our HQ and a nice way to celebrate together the many successes of 2024. Fun Fact: during the 1960's the US used the radio-telescope to measure the radar signals from the Soviet Union new radars installed near the intercontinental ballistic launch sites, with their radio signals being reflected from the surface of the moon...

Most OEMs need to grow EV sales and the biggest market segment is shown here: 2/3 of the EVs that will be sold in Europe and USA from 2025 to 2030 need to be priced below $50k. This represents 124 million EVs for a total amount of revenues of $4.35 trillion. This segment will be penetrated by OEMs that can offer affordable EVs with a reasonable range (300 miles) and fast enough charging (< 20 min for 20% to 80%), manufactured profitably. That requires higher energy density batteries that cost less to manufacture than those manufactured in the USA and Europe today. During 2024, the weighted average retail price of EV sold in Europe and USA was around $69k. The expensive segment is crowded with EV models. The weighted average retail price of the EVs in the affordable segment (green shaded area) is about $35k. The affordable segment is under-served today, because EV batteries are either too expensive or do not have enough range. OneD Battery Sciences invented, patented, perfected the SINANODE technologies to make it possible to manufacture smaller batteries with longer range, faster charging AND lower cost. How? By adding nano-silicon inside the pores of EV-grade graphite anode materials from suppliers already qualified with EV cell factories. The global production of these graphite materials is already hundreds of thousands of tons per year. EV cells with SINANODE processed anodes have been built and tested by OneD and by its customers. The cells store significantly more energy and reduce the battery cost, as verified by customers. The data is clear and the SINANODE innovations are protected by more than 200 granted patents. #evbatteries
