Silicon Anodes is essential to next generation EV batteries, PROVIDED that the silicon anode technology is COST EFFICIENT, SCALABLE, and has IP FREEDOM TO OPERATE. Most silicon technologies are not suitable to EV batteries because they are too expensive, difficult to scale and lack sufficient IP freedom to operate. OneD Battery Sciences has invented, patented, and scaled-up (to pilot scale) the SINANODE manufacturing process, which is now being licensed to industrial partners to scale-up to >10,000 tons per year. These two slides explain how and why. First, natural graphite anode materials already produced at EV-scale by EV-qualified suppliers are processed with the SINANODE process, to add nano-silicon inside the pores. This is done inexpensively because the graphite substrate is already inexpensive today and the patented catalytic silicon growth process uses far less energy and time, and produces far less waste than competing technologies. Second, the SINANODE-enhanced graphite has three to four times higher energy storage capacity than the graphite alone, and has a very high first cycle efficiency. Also, the blending of this silicon-graphite powder with pure EV-grade graphite is easy, as slurry preparation and electrode coating process are already optimized by EV-cell makers. Finally, the SINANODE materials and processes are protected by more than 240 patents granted in USA, Europe, Korea, Japan and China, with priority filing dates that are earlier than that of competing silicon technologies. This provides OneD's industrial partners and OEM customers with the required IP Freedom to Operate. OneD's Licensing Business Model means that no large EV cell maker or OEM is relying on a start-up to get large-scale supply of SINANODE-enhanced graphite anode materials. OneD understands and respects the fact that large companies must rely on established large suppliers. Too many startups have tried and failed at scaling up to EV-quantities. OneD decided a long time ago to focus on perfecting the technology and its IP and collaborating with large partners. #evbatteries
